Vet boarding
 

So sorry your poor little boy grieved himself to death. That is devastating.
As for vet boarding, yes they are safe, but exposed to sick animals and usually left alone at night. Probably in a cage too all the time.
I once reluctantly left my previous 5 LB girl in a boarding place run by vets etc etc, it had wonderful references and inside sleeping areas for small pets. I searched the area before I settled on this place. Said to give walks and special attention. Wrong!!
I came back early after only three days and found my poor little baby sitting in an outside run with a concrete floor wet with disinfectant. She was in an outside cage run for a big dog, not inside! They said her bed was thrown away as she had soiled it, she had never done that before!! The packets of treats I had left for her were never given. This poor baby was sick and sitting in disinfectant water and it took several days for her to recover. If I had not returned early she would probably have died too. So much for being run by vets!! ( the vet office was next door!)
So it really is difficult to find a safe and loving place to leave our pets. Always better to take them with us if possible.

That's why Oliver is going on vacation with us. No kids, just Oliver. :)
You never know what goes on when you're not there.

I'm having a friend from church stay with Jojo while husband and I and Yorkie Spud go on a 2
day rv trip. My husband does not like Jojo barking and so busy. Spud is old and he eats and sleeps. I will never leave him in a kennel. They get sick left in a cage and may get in a fight. Yorkies can be little whippersnappers.

How awful. I am so sorry.

I've always had my doubts about what really happened. My puppy was a beautiful apricot color, and very small. The vet, by coincidence, bred toy poodles. I didn't know at the time, but evidently there had been rumors about the vet being kind of shady. I'll never know, but we did wonder.

I am very sorry you had to go through that, but I will admit, grieved to death does sound a little suspicious. Especially for such a young puppy. Now I am nervous about leaving my pups at the vet, but in the small area I live in, it is the best (and pretty much only) option. Luckily we will only be gone 3 days, and I have 2 pups so at least they will have some comfort in each other.

I think I'm very fortunate now. I told my husband I was nervous about leaving Oliver for our anniversary trip and he said "we'll take him with us." :)

What a horror story. Thank goodness you got to her when you did - you just saved her it sounds like. Poor little baby. I can't imagine anyone being that cruel to any dog in their custody to just let them go uncared for like that. Hope they had to close their doors! Where to leave our babies when we can't be with them is always a horrible worry for anyone who loves their dog. Even those dog care/sitting/boarding/hotel services who seem top notch and give you all the right answers may well turn out to be a horrible dog watcher when actually left with the responsibility of our dogs. Unless there are several referrals of happy customers you know, it's a seems to be a crap shoot how well one's dog is cared for once we leave them.

Your husband sounds awesome! I think if I suggested that to mine he would look at me like I had two heads lol. I swear that man is jealous of a 2# yorkie.

This same place had a fire once. Some of the animale being boarded were lost. Can you even imagine?

They truly sound irresponsible! Shame they ever have one dog under their care and custody.

I would never leave a dog there. This place seemed so great. They have lots of commercials on tv. Dog grooming trucks all over the place. Expensive. I trusted them.

Good grief, Dottie. I just saw your post at the top of the page - I usually only open up a small window and miss some posts that way - bad habit I've got. How awful to come back to that!!! Poor little girl left out in disinfectant and water like that - alone, likely feeling so abandoned, surrounded by strong odors - nothing like her home where she's used to being warm, loved and comfortable. Don't you know she wondered what had happened to her life? Shameful how people you think you know well actually treat dogs when no owner is around! People you think you can rely on and give your trust and money to for good care of your baby - it's really the worst of the worst to treat innocent animals so coldly and cavalierly without a thought for their comfort or sensibilities. An inside dog who hasn't the coat or proper fat insulation and being wet could die from exposure if left out like that for long hours, especially if the dog had a weakened system. That so awful - a vet's office! Truly disgusting what some of our babies have to go through when we leave them, thinking we've put them in good hands.

Isn't that awful - people spend money to build a good community profile and this is how they actually repay their trusting customers who think they are getting the best.
