Our Little Girl "Tinky" :confused:Our sweet yorkie girl is 10 yrs. old. She's always been a wonderful dog, and still is. But lately she has been acting strangely. In Feb. she had 2 seizures. She had not had any before. Has not had any since. She is acting very anxious at night time. She has always slept on my bed, every single night. For the past 3-4 weeks she will not even come in my room at night. If she does she will pant heavily, jump off bed and scratch door to get out. She then would go to my daughters room. I've given her melatonin. Still won't stay in my room. A few weeks back, right before this behavior began, she was on my bed and a very loud helicopter flew over and we could even see lights from our window from it. She sat up immediately and looked terrified, started shaking and hasn't been "normal" acting again since. This is new also, she'll wander in night and have diarrhea on floor . She had never used bathroom in house since she was a puppy. It's all very confusing. What could be wrong with our little girl? |
Ahhhh, poor little girl - you must be very confused and worried.... I, personally, would blame it all on that scarey helicopter - must have frightened the bejeezus out of her. Bad enough for us humans who know what's going on. I think she now associates your room with horrible goings-on - and that's dreadful, for you both :( I would take her to your vet (if you haven't already) and explain exactly how your little girl is behaving - and the course of events leading up to it - see what they say, and what advice they can give you. I truly wish you both all the very best - must be awful xxx |
Frightened You know your little girl more than anyone. Take notes on everything she is doing different and off to the Dr. Best of luck. |
Has she been to the vet for the seizures? |
Welcome to Yorkietalk. It may very well be the helicopter that she is so fearful. My little girl, Ashley, started acting strangely about a year before she passed away close to her seventeenth birthday. The behavior changes were subtle at first, but then she began pacing a lot at night, and her anxiety level was high. It turned out it was the beginning of Canine Cognitive Dysfunction. It probably isn't what your little girl has, but I'm attaching a link to a diagnostic test with a checklist of the symptoms. Ashley was put on Anipryl, and it helped her anxiety. http://www.cdsindogs.com/PDF/cdsindogs/ANIPRYL.pdf |
Our Little Girl Tinky Hey love to dream 88, Shicks, Harrysmum and lisaly. Thanks for your comments and helpful tips on what I can try with Tinky. Truly appreciated. Thank you lisaly for the link. I did check it out. We've been to the vet for seizures but not these new behaviors. Looks like I'll be making a vet visit next. She did seem to have some of symptoms of CCDS. Not that many though. It makes me sad and worried that there is something wrong and I don't know how to help her yet. |
I had issues of anxiety with my yorkie and she ended up having to be put on anxiety meds for about three months and then she was able to be weaned off so if there is nothing health related you could do that. |
