Merrick dry dog food Anyone have any opinions on merrick dry dog food? My older boy has allergies to chicken, grains and egg and I'm having a hard time finding a high quality food. The grain free beef and sweet potato from merrick seems good from my research online. He's currently on the limited ingredient salmon and potato formula from wellness but he seems hungry after his meals and I don't think nutrient wise he's getting enough. |
I have a hard time trusting Merrick after the issues they have had in the past. |
Thank you! |
I would recommend trying to find a different brand. Have you looked at Fromm? They offer Grain Free and have quite a few different varieties. |
I have looked into Fromm but it seems that their food contains egg which is also on the allergy list :( |
Have you looked into Acana limited ingredients? |
Thanks I will look into the acana! |
Did you do an elimination diet to find out allergies? |
Yes I did and I also did allergy testing done bc it was so frustrating and it seemed like just when I found something that worked for him he had another flare up. |

He throws up every time he eats egg, he itches for days when he eats chicken or wheat... So process of elimination plus the testing confirmed what I had suspected...those are the culprits...when he has no chicken or grains he doesn't suffer with the itching. I home cook mostly but since he's older now I like the option of the added nutrients like glucosamine etc. |
It's only an older age issue... His whole life he was able to have chicken and egg and then all of a sudden he was so itchy and he scratches himself so bad that he gets a bald spot. When he has none of those foods he's fine. I'm just concerned about his optimal health. |
