I have this for mine! My name and phone number on it! I found a Yorkie running down the street one night when I was coming home from picking my son up from work. The next day, I called the vet on the tag....they looked up the rabies # and said that woman had moved and did not come to that vet office any more. GREAT!! I asked if they had forwarded records to any other vet...."no". Fortunately, the NEXT day, there were signs and posters all along the street, on all the traffic signs, etc....I called the people so the story had a great ending for little "Joy-Joy".....if they would have had a embossed collar with the owners name and phone number embroidered on it, I could have called them as soon as I got home with their baby girl. |
I am so glad you were able to find her owners though! It is awesome when a pet is able to find it's way home. I worry that my Yorkie might get out and someone will decide he is just so cute and so sweet that they keep him. I think that happened with a cat of ours, although I think the people actually took the cat from my yard though. I was sleeping in the living room because our bedroom was being remodeled and my husband had just left for work and I heard a car door out front, and thinking he had forgotten something I looked out the window but could only see the back end of a car. I heard the car door again and they left. I called my husband and told him about it and he said our cat was right there in the front yard when he left. We never saw the cat again. I think they saw her sitting there and thought she was pretty so they stopped and since she was friendly she didn't run away from them and they just picked her up and took her. We live next to an apartment building and our current cat likes to wander in the parking lot there and she is only about 6 lbs and looks like a kitten even though she is 9 years old. We are all outside on nice day and I hear a little girl talking about a lost kitten and asking if they can keep it. I yell really loudly "Cat! Get your butt back home right now!" The parents shoo their child to their car and here comes our cat wandering back to our yard. The only places she goes is our yard and the apartment parking lot. When we got her it was an abandoned building and not apartments though. My kids learned to ride bikes and to roller skate in the parking lot so the cat thought it was "our" property because we were up there alot. Then they decided to turn it into apartments a few years ago. |

I use a harness for Macy's leash and a collar for her tags. And is this a little off topic, but are you a fellow whovian? |

BOTH! I have used both to locate owners of dogs I have found...and would not have Titus back without the tags... |
I think tags are a must. I think someone will call right away If they see this info on a tag. Some people might not want to be bothered with having to take the dog somewhere. I"ll never forget going to a nascar race years ago at the campground and a couple were going around asking everyone if they had seen their little dog. I felt so bad for them but worse for the dog. We happened to have both our Rottweiler and yorkie on that trip. As soon as we returned home I went and got tags with my cell number on it. |

-high five- Whovians are everywhere! |
when you say tags on the harness, what do you mean? like how do you attach them? i can't think of a way where they either wouldn't get caught in the leash or get in the way of any of the adjuster straps. i was thinking of sewing my own harnesses with an extra d ring on the side to add tags to - good idea? |
Hi there, I keep a collar on my dog. I don't use the collar for walks with a leash. Harness for that. The collar is used for tags and for being cute. I do use the plastic snap buckled kind so it can pop off if need. In addition to the collar, have your baby microchipped and register the chip. That way if he/she is ever lost, there's the collar and a microchip to contact you. |
chipped tags? has anyone tried the tags where they have a sort of bar code on the back and they scan that and you get gps tracking and a profile on your puppy? iv gotten mixed reviews on those, i know they obviously won't fully replace micro chipping, but maybe as a secondary insurance? |
