Ear Mites, Home remedy? My yorkie, Kirby, sleeps at the foot of my bed at night.. & this morning before I left the house, I noticed a brown grain of something on top of my comforter. I rubbed it between my fingers, smelled it, & noticed that it smelled like Kirby's ear. This worried me, so I decided to Google it, & my research implicated that Kirby has ear mites (the ear scratching, head shaking, & the **coffee grain** debris). Before I take a pharmaceutical approach, I want to know if I can use Apple Cider Vinegar to treat it. Of course I will consult with a vet first before I decide to, but I want to know has anyone had success with the ACV treatment for ear mites?? |

My Zoey had ear mites when I got her and I did try OTC drops. Did not work. One application of ointment from the vet and voila, the mites were gone forever. She did not come from a puppy mill but a reputable breeder that had a few too many dogs and was getting too old to stay in the business. Actually, she was the original AKC accepted Parti yorkie breeder. |

I wasn't saying that all dogs that have ear mites come from puppy mills, just that it is more common in dogs that come from puppy mills. My vet actually told me that in her 15 years of being a vet she has only personally seen a handful of dogs with ear mites. Ear infections are much more common. Sorry if I was not clear about that. Either way, like you said, going to the vet to get a clear diagnosis and treatment is important. |
No need to explain about puppy mills. I didn't think a thing about your vet's statement. Probably true. Poor pm babies have so many problems. I just wanted to say that even reputable breeders can have problems although they should be cleared up before selling a pup. Zoey' s breeder should just retire. I would not buy another pup from her. I ran into a lady with a tiny beautiful yorkie with the most beautiful hair and asked her who the breeder was. Well, it turned out to be Zoey's breeder. She paid twice the price for her girl. Zoey has skimpy hair. |
Ear mites are very contageous and can easily be picked up at dog parks and other group socialization activities! Revolution heartworm med prevents/cures ear mites and I tell my new owners if they are going to have their pups socializing in a multitude of areas, Revolution is a great choice to use! |
I still think she should go to the vet and make sure it actually IS ear mites. I would hate for her to treat for ear mites, and it actually be a yeast infection. That would only cause the pup to suffer longer than necessary. When I suspected Lexi had ear mites, I almost bought some over the counter medicine to treat it, but I'm glad I didn't since I was wrong about the diagnosis. Here is an article I found. Ear Mites or Infection? | Sit and Stay |

Absolutely!! People can get into REAL trouble looking at symptoms, googling them, self diagnosing and using OTC meds, especially all without a medical diagnosis! |
You need to take her to the vet. |
