10 week Yorkie weighing in at 4.7 lbs.... :aimeeyorkHi! My Jabba had a vet visit and weighed in at 4.7 lbs. Vet said he did not need to go on a diet. Does anyone else have a yorkie that weighed that much at 9 weeks? His coat also seems fuzzy vs the silky... anybody have cotton coat yorkie? I believe this is what I have! We love his personality, just concerned if he was possibly on the overweight catagory.:animal36:animal-pa |
My first yorkie weighed 6.2 pounds at 12 weeks when I got him, and finished out at around 11 pounds. He also had a very cottony coat as a puppy, and never did get that beautiful floor length coat, but he was the cutest yorkie ever! Diana |
Lol... Thanks! I feel better knowing someone out there in the yorkie world had a furbaby tipping the same scale! |
There are a lot of teapot yorkies on this site. My second yorkie tips the scale at over 12 pounds. We rescued him as a two year old so I have no clue what his puppy weights were, but the jumbo shrimps just mean more yorkie to love! Diana |
Teddy is small but his coat is like cotton! It is exactly like the middle of a cotton ball in the middle after being torn apart! |

Oscar was 4 lbs @ 12 weeks .. Now 3 1/2 years @ 11 lbs.. |
My passed girl as an adult weighed in at 17lbs. I can't remember what her weight was at 8 weeks old when I got her. She was beautiful with a sleek body, all dog, no fat. My adopted boy weighs 12.5 Lbs. Just more baby to love. |
Welcome! I don't have a teapot Yorkie but I wouldn't care if she was. I love her😀 Would love to see pics! |
Your pup is not overweight. He is just larger than what you would expect a Yorkie would be at that age. Many breeders sell their pups at a very young age in order to avoid having to explain the size of their pups. |
He's a puppy so I don't think he can be overweight. He may be a bigger yorkie when he's completed growing or he could level out and be no more than 6-lbs. Were his parents/grand sires/dams on the bigger spectrum of the scale? That should give you a general idea. I'm sure he's darling! |
Waffles was 5.4 lbs at 12 weeks. Now at 2 1/2 years he's a slim 13 lbs. |
mine weighed 4 lbs at 14 weeks |
Chase was about 5lbs at 12 weeks, and at almost 6 years old he's 11-12lbs :) He also has the cottony coat, so we keep him in a puppy cut. |
Charlie is 10 weeks old and weighs 3 lbs. I recently started a similar thread titled Large Yorkies. I pretty much wondered the same thing and was figuring he is going to be a larger yorkie. He's adorable regardless though. A bit of a brat but adorable. |
I think Magnus was about that weight around 10 weeks. He's now 16.5 lbs. I have to admit... he's bit of an oinker and needs to go on a diet. lol |
My girl is 9 months and last weighed 11 lbs, she's actually a little overweight by a few pounds (she's long framed but dainty boned) and the vet agreed with me that she should probably be at 8-9 lbs for optimum weight. She's got LP (luxating patella), as well, which is why weight concerned us more than normal, cause otherwise since she was still so young my vet wouldn't have worried about it as much. She's also been fixed and that can make it easier for her to gain weight. I've been giving her joint supplements that the vet recommended and it has done wonders! But she still needed to lose a couple of pounds :p She also has the cotton coat so it makes her look a lot more "fluffier" than normal, lol When i get the groomer to trim her down a good bit, I can easily see her body shape. My vet jokingly said, "she used to be so small bodied and big headed, but now she's big bodied and small headed". lol |
I adopted my girl when she was 10 weeks old (so I was told). No papers or records. Not sure if she's even all Yorkie or not. She had a medical condition which was too costly for the "breeder" to bother fixing..ARGH..well, anyway thats how I came to get this little beauty. I took her right to my vet and at 10 weeks (my vet said that she looked pretty close to that, in her opinion) she weighed 3.10. On Wedensday she weighed exactly 6 lbs. So, I guess at 14 1/2 weeks she's a pretty big girl from what I'm reading. Still feels very tiny to me:) |

Louie was 3.3 lbs at 14 weeks and, now, at 23 weeks, he's 5.1 lbs. I don't know how exactly big he'll get, but I'm confident that he won't pass 6.5 lbs. His dad was 5.5 lbs and his mom was 6 lbs. If I'm going by the "double the weight at 12 weeks" thing, he should be between 5.2 and 5.5 lbs. As I said, his weight does seem to be leveling off. But he's only 23 weeks old. It's weird. |
Hi Brianna, I have the Science Diet ( I think thats it) from the vet at first, but changed her to Blue Buffalo for puppies. She loves it. I also give her carrots, banana chips (dried banana) and bits of apples. Not all at once, lol…but for treats. I use her food to train her too, but she has a big appetite. She's a busy girl. When I got her she hadn't been wormed, so she was in agony, until she got treatment from the vet. It took two shots to clear them out. Thats when she really started to grow. I have to resize my pictures to post on here. But when I got her she was smaller then my tv remote control..now she's almost twice as long from head to end of her stubby little tail, lol. I give her real chicken and bits of steak when I make it. So far this seems to be working.:) |

I'm not so sure about the Blue Buffalo now that you said that! I just go by what people recommend. I try to get the right stuff. She does pee a lot. I'm sure she doesn't have an infection because I have pretty much brought her to the vet every week since I got her, lol. Maybe I should try to change her food slowly again, before she gets too used to this one. |
Rolo was 4.8 lbs at 12 weeks old, he's now 14 lbs! |
