I had never heard of licensing a dog before I read about it here. Thus my dogs are unlicensed. I looked it up and here its 5 dollars for a fixed dog and 100 for an intact dog per year! I don't believe its enforced. |
I'm wondering if there is more than one licensing being discussed. I live in Tinley Park/Will County IL. My 3 get their Rabies vaccines every THREE years. When I purchase their vaccines I'm also purchasing the License. The Village is divided into 2 different counties Cook & Will so I'm always careful to make sure they are selling me a license for Will County. Our home is right on the dividing lines between counties.......literally my mailbox and the street are on the Cook County side and our home is on the Will County side of the dividing line. We have a problem all the time with all different types of taxes, school, even our license plates. "THEY" always want to change our information to COOK. But Will County is a lower tax so I'm always correcting the errors. Here is the Will County statement regarding Rabies Vaccines and Licensing. Quote:

I think they're tracking the rabies vaccinations. The license tells them you vaccinated your dog so he's safe to be outside in public or the public is safe if bitten. I think it's a good thing. |
Maybe not our little fur balls but what about those big dogs.... |
I have never licensed my dogs. We live outside of the city limits and it is not required so of course there is no fine. My dog is microchipped and wears an id collar with her name, my name, and phone number. I am not opposed to licensing. Just never really saw the need. |
I contacted a lady I know who does animal rescue and works with various animal groups in my area. She also works at a local dog daycare/boarding facility as well. Anyway.... She said we don't have dog licensing in our county and that you are just required to keep your dogs rabies shot up to date and that is the only licensing type thing you need. Both my dogs and my cat are all up to date on rabies so I am good. Glad to know I wasn't missing something. I had looked it up online and could find nothing about it so this is a relief. So, no I don't license my dogs because it is not required, but I do keep their rabies shot current which is required. |
The county offered free micro-chipping, compared to the $75 my vet charges (she absolutely supported taking Piper to the county facility), and at that time I went ahead and licensed Pipe--sorta as a thanks for the micro chip. We need to renew license yearly and I believe the fee is $7 or $11. I, too, think licensing is a way of checking that animal is spayed/neutered and current w/shots. Here in Sparks, NV, the process was easy, fast, and cheap--thank goodness! |

In my county, dog license enforcement, door to door knocking, on average, raises over $200,000.00 additional money from licensing violations. That's a nice chunk of additional money to add to the yearly revenue, to help run our animal shelter. Personally, I'd much rather see them go after the violators than raise rates on law abiding citizens....but I'm grumpy today as i just received my new house tax assessment for this year in todays mail, which of course has increased yet again, just like i has every year I've lived here. If only wages increased proportionally to taxes.... Michigan is such a mess! |
