8 week old yorkie Hi I have an 8 week old York's that refuses to eat kibble. I feed her halo. I give her nutracal since she won't eat. I was thinking about switching to honest kitchen. Has anyone tried this? |
That puppy is actually just at the age when they are being weaned...try Royal Canin mousse for baby dogs....or they also have a canned puppy formula for puppys 12 weeks or older....At 12 weeks you can start to add some Royal Canin puppy kibble to the canned puppy food...it is easier to chew and most pups love it. This baby is so young to have to climb on the merry-go-round of searching for food....I think this is a primary cause of majority of the picky eaters encountered in the dog world. What was the baby on when you got him? |
She was on diamond naturals. The food was also coated in wet food to get her to eat. I want to stick to a good quality food. I am not familiar with royal canin. |
Royal Canin has been around since the '60's....please google it....it is a benchmark of quality in production/research/quality management in dog food. I would have left her on what she was eating until she was older....one less issue for her getting familiar and acclimated in her new home. What is your definition of "quality food"? |
This poor pup should still be with his music mom. Not eating at this age is dangerous and could end badly. You may have to have a vet show you how to force feed. |

You could try Nutri source for puppies. It is maybe 1/4" or less of the size of a sweet pea. My sisters little puppy loved it. And my puppy that won't eat anything hardly unless I cook it also dug into it. It is made in the USA and and is considered a very good nutritional dog food. But make sure you get the Nutri Source Puppy. It is a tiny little triangle shape. An overall good brand of dry dog food. |
At her age, that she IS eating is far more important than what brand she is eating. After you are certain that she is thriving, then you can transition her to the food of your choice. |

No pup should ever leave its breeders home until they are able to eat dry kibble and drink water on their own. Its just a matter of time before she feel comfortable with her new surroundings and will dive right in. Meanwhile you may need to supplement her food with the mix above in order to help her eat and get the nutrition she needs. If that doesn't help PM me and I can give you more ideas. |
