Large Yorkies? Does anyone on here have a large yorkie? In October I adopted a 6 year old and she's 7 lbs but I just brought home a 2 month old who I believe is pretty large for a yorkie. This guy was just selling him on Craigslist because he was moving and I fell in love with his pictures. He's 10 weeks old and already weighs 3 lbs! His paws are bigger than my 6 year old's paws. Of course, I'll still love him just the same no matter how big he gets but I'm just curious how many people on here have a large yorkie. He was feeding the little guy canned Kibble and Bits so it's possible he's overweight already...not sure. He goes to my vet on Saturday....because of course he's behind on his vaccinations. I'm so excited about him...even if he end up being a giant lol. He's really taken to my 7 year old daughter, which makes me super happy. I will post pictures soon! |
I don't own a large Yorkie myself but my parents had a 14 lb Yorkie and we all loved him and he was super smart and handsome :) Congrats on your new guy! |
The little guy in my avatar picture weighs 12 pounds, and he's a 2 year old rescue. My first yorkie weighed 11 pounds. Just more yorkie to love! Diana |
Bubba and Sissy are 10 and 9lbs. When I got Bubba I was looking for a hefty because of the grand kids and a husband who pays so little attention he could trip over an elephant. They are both precious and cuddely and besides that the bigger they are, the more to keep you warm at night....believe me these two are like heating pads! |
My Magnus is 16.5 lbs. I've heard of yorkies getting to be big as 22 lbs! I have to say, Magnus is MUCH better to cuddle with... Totally awesome heating pads (like Margaritaville mentioned) that doesn't need any other source of power! |
I have two 17 pounders. At the age your pup is he can't be fat. |
I have two huge boys....17 pounders....they are great! Sturdy and energetic and just 10x bundle of Yorkie greatness! Be sure to have pup scanned for microchip....Craig's List is notorious for selling stolen dogs! |
Maddie in my avatar to the left is just shy 14 pounds |
I used to have two yorkies at around 12lbs, but my current girl is actually a little chunky at 11lbs (last weighed anyways) but her ideal weight is about 8-9lbs. She's still a "larger" yorkie cause she's so tall (if somewhat dainty structured) and above the standard, which is a good thing cause when I first got her she was so dainty/tiny and accident prone, I was actually relieved she gained a bit more size (was wanting a yorkie that was a little smaller than my past ones but no smaller than average, to me anything under 6lbs was just too small). |
Wow, thank you for all the responses, just shows how ignorant I am when it comes to their size. The guy who had him gave me all his CKC papers, vet records etc so I don't think he's stolen. Of course, I'll have them scan him for a microchip before I have one inserted myself. |

Our little guy is almost 10 months and just hit 9 lbs. I don't think he's done yet, but unsure how long they typically put on weight for :) We got him at 13 weeks and he was 3.4 lbs the day we brought him home. I love that he's not a smaller Yorkie. |
If he mixed with another breed, I'd be very surprised. He looks like a yorkie pup to me. Good thing I'm not trying to show him or breed. I guess my 6 year old could be a mix since I adopted her without registration papers. |
