OMG Do They Ever Stop Peeing IN The House Really at my wits end with this dog. Just saw that he peed on my ottomon in my living room. I have never never had a dog like this. I am really discouraged. I know I can crate him and I can put diapers on him but what am I going to do crate him for life. That would be crule. Can not crate him 24/7. And then what your suppose to have diapers on them 24/7 too. Has anyone had a yorkie that has peed in their house its whole life. He is 11 months old. I really hope he grows out of it but I don't see that happening. |
Hi....Have you tried pee pads?...I use them held by a plastic frame so Teddi doesnt tear or pull them....I know it would be ideal for our dogs to toilet outside, but the pee pads work a treat for me and keep the house clean....I had to remove my lovely shag rug from the living room 'cause Teddi loved to wee on it....I know how frustrated you must be feeling right now and your dog has left his scent at all the places he has used....I know people here on YT will give you more information about crating.....hope you find a solution....:animal-pa |
I gave mine a treat everytime they went outside and went potty |
I know how you feel. I have a 2 year old female Yorkie who still pees in the house! I have crate trained her since day one, taken her out every hour and only been in 1/2 hour and find she has gone on the floor. She knows it's wrong because she takes off when I find it. She also has marked since 10 weeks old. She was spayed at 4 months. I now have a 6 month male yorkie who I got 1 month ago and he is fully trained. Only made 2 mistakes the first week we had him. He will cry to go out but Maggie will only cry to go out to poop. You cannot take your eyes off of her or she will pee! I just has her checked for bladder problems but all her blood work was good. She also had liver shunt surgery 5 months ago and her liver was 1/5 the size it should be. I am afraid to try pee pads because I do not want the other one to start using them as he does very well at going outside about every 3 or 4 hours and is 4 1/2 lbs and Maggie is 6 1/2 lbs. I wish I knew the answer, lol |
Is this pup neutered.....if you can neuter them before they start marking, that will usually keep them from hiking their leg on everything.....as far as squatting and peeing, put a belly band on him, and take him outside every 3 hours, take the pee pad off, tell him a command you want to use (Go TT!) let him pee and when he does, give him a treat and lavish lavish praise! Put the belly band back on, go back inside....3 hours later, repeat....do this for a week....then go to 5 hour trips....and repeat....in another week, go to 8 hours, repeat! When you are not home with him, he will have to be crated or isolated in one small room. Housebreaking these babies can be a challenge like none you have ever encountered! You must be consistant, persistant, diligent and determined! He is trying to make you do this HIS way.....you have to be smarter and more determined than he is, that it is YOUR house, YOU are the boss, and HE will do it YOUR way!!! |
Way long ago I raised a couple of German Shepherds from 6-8wks...The first was housebroken by the end of day three (completely), the other took longer--all of a week! I've had my Piper-girl for about 8 months; she's four yrs and I'm still working on housebreaking! I act all excited when asking is she want to go outside, watch her and if she's not concentrating, I call her back in and try later. If she does her business, I get even more excited when calling her in and give her a piece of (canned) chicken, all the while telling her what a good, good girl she is...Basically, when I'm home, Piper is 99% housebroken. The 9 hrs I'm at work is another story; sometimes the house is spotless, sometimes I come home to a barn, sometimes she uses pads, other times not...Our little sweethearts are notoriously intelligent, infamously stubborn, and relentlessly determined. And I couldn't be happier with Piper, all of her quirks, that silly little personality, her sweet nature, her patience...I love her beyond all reason and wouldn't change one thing. I am sure you'll get your little guy housebroken--just remember, you've met your match! You'll make it!!! |
I personally think diapers are cruel and not going to teach him anything. You have to start from the beginning. Limit the space he is allowed by using a play pen. Take him potty every hour and praise him with a treat when he goes. Mine is completely potty trained and would not go inside no matter what. |
I'm still working on mine. Sometimes I think he is trained and then he will pee and poop I the house. I feel your pain. |
How do you know when they are trained? Is there a set an out of time? |
ya its crazy no rhyme of reason. He will go on the pad for days and hold it in all night and when I am at work. He only pees when I am home with him. I hate to have him locked in the kitchen 24.7 so I let him come in the living room with us when we are watching tv and he will jump down and lift his leg and pee on the couch or the ottomon with us right there!! I really believe he is the devil and will always pee in my house!! LOL |
Is he neutered?????? He is marking........some people have managed to housebreak this behavior...I have never actually seen it, but I do not think you will see that any time soon! Put a belly band on that baby so he doesnt ruin all your furniture! Putting a bellyband on a male dog is no worse than putting a diaper on a baby! It is only "cruel" if you LEAVE a sopping wet, peed in belly band on the pup!!! You KNOW to CHANGE the pee pad inside the belly band every 3-4 hours if need be....remember, marking only involves a couple of squirts of pee, not a copmplete bladder emptying, so changing the pad every 3-4 hours should be more than enough! No guilt in putting a belly band on that boy! |

SIGH - Teddy pees IN his band. Like really pees. Boy dogs can be frustrating! |
Yes he is neutered. My last dog wore diapers at the end because he was 16 and had dementia and I remember saying when he was gone, I do not miss the diapers!! Now I have a new young dog and I never thought I would have to do that with a young dog!! I really do not want to have to put him in a belly band for his whole life and change a belly band several times a day. That is just crazy!! |
