Puppy chewing chewing Bella always has to have something to chew. She is 10 weeks old and super precious. I think this is normal but any advise on good chew toys? |
Hi and welcome to YT :)! Yes, this is normal - especially at this very young age. Most breeders keep their yorkies until 12 weeks old - so technically, she's even younger than usual. You can try Nyla Bones, chew toys, rope toys, Honest Kitchen Beams, Munchy Sticks, CET chews, raw meaty bones, a Kong. |
We have had lots of fun with fleece strips (cut off an old throw) that we knot, braid and weave (lanyards). They are lightweight, easy to clean, and soft on little teeth, they don't fray or tear, you can dampen and freeze them- and I think they help keep the teeth clean. We cut the rest of the throw into pieces for crate blankets- always a fresh piece available. We also used cloth infant toys (bought from church/yard sales), puppy nylabones, and petstages dog toys |

I am really concerned about them breaking into shards???? Does this happen?? I am scared they are going to get a shard of that plank down the throat and choke them....has this been an issue/concern for anyone else? |
Getting a fleece blanket! |
I buy clearance fleece blankets from Walmart or Ross at the end of the season (Now!) but the fabric stores can be a good source of a yard or two if they are having a sale(look for a coupon) "Fleece" can be very different, some of the latest has been very stretchy (not as easy to work with) |
Now trying to chew my hands Now her favorite chew toy is our hands. My labs I knew how to stop by squeezing their mouths shut and saying no she seems too small to do this any suggestions? I also try to have a chew toy handy but she is persistent |
She is young and in the baby chewing stage! |

If she's teething, try soaking one of those small baby hand towels in water (or chicken broth) and put it in the freezer. Once frozen, give it to Bella. It helps soothe their gum. |
Zoey is 5 months old and is always chewing ! She absolutely loves her toys and anything else she can get her teeth into,(LOL) so I don't know how long the phase will last. |
My Gracie was a chewing machine when she was a puppy. She used to steal things out of purses, closets, and off end tables to chew on. It was a nightmare. I was so afraid that she would choke on something when I wasn't looking! We bought her some 12" bully sticks from Bully Sticks - All Natural Value Dog Treats - Best Bully Sticks and that was the end of the nightmare. She loves those things and still finds comfort in chewing occasionally though not nearly as much as when she was a pup. They are totally digestible unlike rawhide. I do throw them away when they get to about 3 or 4 inches so she can't choke on one. |
Just gave Bella a bully stick. She I loves it. I give our lab beef leg bones we get from the butcher. I boil them and he chews until there's hardly any fat or meat left on them. When he is done Bella gets it. Amuses her for awhile. |
