Food Bowl Sizing? Hi All, I am a bit of a novice when it comes to Yorkie's, but am in the process of preparing for a puppy. Right now, I'm picking up all the required supplies (i.e. toys, crate, etc.) and food bowls are a definite must! This may seem like a silly question, but what is the best size of bowl to buy for a Yorkie that will be 5-7lbs full grown? I found this really nice set online and am leaning toward XS, but am not sure if XS is too small? Thoughts? Artisan Double Wood Feeder Fossil - Artisan Double Wood Feeder - Pet Accessories Thanks everyone! I appreciate your feedback! :) |
I use a larger water one then I do food one. I'm also not sure a new pup will be big enough to eat out of that dish. |
It's lovely - but I, personally, would get smaller bowls for when your little one is tiny - and save getting this gorgeous creation until your pup is older...:) I'm also saying this because Harry was a VERY strange eater when he was small - he wouldn't eat out of bowls (had to be from a plate?!!?) and couldn't stand certain bowls to drink out of ....just trying to save you a bit of money and frustration here, for now... :D xx |

I use fiesta ware fruit bowls, they're very shallow and lead free. I also use a metal bowl lift from Kohls, but it would be too high for a new puppy. The great thing about the metal bowl lift is you can use almost any bowls in it, that's why I picked it. I don't think the wood bowl lift is a good idea, I think water getting on it will damage it and a puppy may chew it. |
That selection you mader is stunning Ryan....I love it....but I dont know if your puppy will be tall enough to reach the bowls....and I can almost promise you, puppy will CHEW on the wood stand!!! I know not to get too large a bowl for water...puppies will often use them for swimming in! Small puppies can actually drown in a water bowl if it is too large and deep. I like the stainless steel bowls.....Chewy.com has some for $0.99......have some for $1.99 that are non slip on the bottom.....the non slip ones are good for those that enjoy relocating their bowls all over the kitchen! I would save that beautiful wood stand with those lovely square bowls for when pup is older...mayby as a First Birthday Present, or a Christmas present 2015 for your baby! |
When they are puppies I use kitty bowls. And order the one you picked for when he is older. I don't like big water bowls. I like to change the water at least twice a day |
do you know of a good hanging crate bowl- one where they can't get the bowl out and get their heads caught in the ring? |
