Oliver-Ugh So after a few months of being pretty reliable in the housebreaking department, Oliver has decided that he no longer wants to pee on the pads. This morning, even though I was looking right at him, he went on the bottom shelf of the DVD case. Every DVD had to be pulled out and cleaned. I do use a crate. I sat here for hours yesterday waiting for him to go. He can be very stubborn. |

In some ways it's harder using pads. But when they're trained, it's so much easier. He was neutered at 6 months. This morning I was watching him, was looking right at him when he went on the shelf. I'm getting very frustrated. :) |
Don't give up. I have two and they just weren't "getting" what the pee pads were for. They were tiny, young and it was in the middle of a brutal winter when we got them, so I hated to take them out. I watched them carefully when I was not at work, and realized that one paced and paced when he had to go out, and the other ran to the patio door back and forth. When they showed signs I ran them outside, always with a pocketful of Cheerios. There will be accidents, but watch him for signs. It took over a year before my dogs barked at the door when they needed to go out. Don't give up. These are tough, stubborn little dogs and very difficult to potty train. |

One step forward and two steps back. Try and be consistent putting him on the pad several times a day. Again, watch for signs. Mine never quite got the idea of a wee wee pad, mostly because I made the mistake of putting them on carpet and not a hard floor. I was also training them to go outdoors. Major confusion. Ultimately my dogs were trained to go outside, which is what I wanted. Now that it is 4-degrees in NJ with snow every other day, my pups are using wee wee pads that I put down. No way they want to go outdoors! Go figure. Be consistent and keep the faith. He will get it eventually. |
Well, it seems that one problem was he wanted his pad changed every time. He didn't want to go on it if it had been used. LOL Why all of a sudden I have no idea, but at least it's partially solved. |
