Riding in the car Hi. I've had my little girl for about a week. She's adjusting really well so far. I bought her a little elevated car seat so she can look out the window and I take her on the school run everyday. She whines the whole time and if I stop touching her she really starts barking. I was just wondering if any of y'all had yorkies who hated car rides but eventually got used to them? I know she's new here so I don't expect any good behavior on her part. I'm just curious. |
Maggie used to get nervous, she would shake and sort of pace around the passenger seat (I should have had her in a carseat) but now she is used to it and falls asleep minutes after we take off. Can you bring a special treat in the car so she associates the car with the treat? Good luck! It really is nice when you can bring them along places :) |
My Yorkie was the same but I started bringing a treat or a special toy and she is just fine. However, if you pet her every time she barks or cries, you may prolong the time it takes her to adjust to car rides. She may associate barking and crying with getting petted and loved. |
Rasta has always been pretty chill regarding the car as long as he can see me. Since your pup is still getting used to everything; I suggest you take out the car seat when your not using it, bring it inside, and let her sniff/lay in it. Maybe she'll be more comfortable with car rides if she's more comfortable with the seat. Also, as MMM suggested bring a toy or special treat |
Max cried for the first year. Now he loves car rides! |
