My yorkie won't eat. Hi. 10 days ago I adopted a two year old yorkie. I was told he was free feed and that he was on blue buffalo brand food, which I kept because I did not want to change his first. I decided I wanted to put him on a schedule feeding because I been reading that it is better because it may help with him not getting over weight. Any ways, some days he may nibble the food but he hardly eat at all and I don't know what to do. I don't want him to starve himself this is my very first dog ever and I want to give him nothing but the best. I think his previous owners may have been giving him human food but I don't want to do that because my feelings are that he won't get proper nutrition. Any advice would be greatly appreciated it. Suicide with food or anything else that would make him a happy dog in my home. Also, what toys have work for your yorkie. I have bought him several squeaky toys, ball, ropes but the rope and ball he don't care for and the rubber he bites and break into a million pieces. Thanks |
Sorry but my auto correct put suicide. It was suppose to say advice.Any advice. Sorry for the mistake. |
Hi - welcome and congrats on your new baby! I would try sprinkling some Parmesan cheese on the food as it's very enticing for dogs. For toys, mine love balls and squeaky toys. |
Yorkies can be a little fussy try hand feeding like it's a treat works for my little girl some days |
I've had best results with either mixing kibbles with canned food or soaking kibbles with chicken broth (no sodium added). You might also think about adding some nutritional supplements like probiotics and enzymes. I got mine from toplinepet.com They're in a powder form and I just add a little sprinkle on their kibbles/canned food. As for toys... did he like the squeaky toys? How big/small is he? Does he like puzzle toys? |
We have a couple who like the thrill of the chase, so we toss one kibble at a time across the kitchen floor and they get pounced on and gobbled up! |
He ate the food when I sprinkle the cheese but I do worry about add calories altho for him being 12 pounds he look really skinny. All the ideas are good and I keep them in mind. I just want to give him the best. |
