Need some advice Hi there, I am new to Yorkie talk and I have really enjoyed reading your experiences. I have a 13 year old yorkie named Tawny and I recently added another one to my family. Her name is Madisyn and she is now 4 months old. Tawny is 10 pounds and I really never had an issue with potty training her. Madisyn is currently 4 pounds and is only expected to be between 5 to 7 pounds. I am really having a hard time training Madisyn as she sometimes will go outside and come in and go again. I am thinking maybe this is because her bladder is so small and will just take time to develop. My question is for those of you with a smaller adult yorkie, how frequently do they need to be left out to go potty? Is there a light at the end of the tunnel or will I be taking her out every 1 to 2 hours even when she is full grown? |
There will be light. Sophie was going every 1-2 hrs. With a lot of patience it will change. |
How old is Sophie, how much does she weigh and how frequently does she go potty? Madisyn just went 2 times in the past hour. |
Rasta is about 2.2 lbs and I usually take him out every 45 minutes or: 30 mins after eating/drinking, after waking up, after playing. Yorkies have small bladders anyway but considering the fact that she's a puppy and has little to no bladder control taking her out every hour might be best. I also have a fresh pet patch just in case. Don't worry! She'll get the hang of it eventually! |
Patience and persistance and diligence is the key to housebreaking a Yorkie!! They can be very stubborn and seem intent on showing YOU they are in control....but they eventually do catch on and when they realize it MUST be done YOUR way, they will conform and go along with your house rules! |
Thanks for the encouragement. On Monday I lost my 13 year old yorkie to cancer and I realized that she was dripping urine in the house making it more difficult to train my pup. My heart is breaking but as I look at my new pup I realize I am beginning another journey making another best friend! It has been 13 years since I have gone through the puppy stage so I am a bit rusty and appreciate all and any tips you can give me. |
