Did You Allow Your Breeder To Choose Your Pup?
 

After having Rasta for over a year and training ;) my husband to clean after our bully I've been given the go ahead to get another yorkie. My question is: Did you pick your pup yourself or did the breeder narrow down what she/he thought would be a good fit and you made the final decision? I've been waiting for over a year for Rasta's breeder to breed a particular pair, which she did in Oct/Nov. That pair only produced 2 pups(1 passed a male). Only the female was left to which I have claim since I was the first on her list for that litter's females. On the other hand, Rasta's parents have been bred again(5 girls) and my breeder thinks I would be happier with one of those puppies. My only criteria was for the puppy to be female, feisty, healthy, bigger than Rasta who's only 2.2 lbs(i do not want another tiny yorkie if I can help it!), and hopefully on the lighter color end since Rasta is dark, but I know size and looks are not a guarantee. The breeder has told me Rasta's siblings stayed dark like him so my chances are slim to get a light adult from his parents. Whereas the other sire/dam are blonde/blue. I'll attach a pic of the father so you can get an idea. He's gorgeous! I want one who looks just like him!

My breeder didn't really offer me the option of picking a puppy. She asked me what my experience was and preferences etc and said I have a perfect puppy for you - come meet him.

I chose my puppy...I had first pick of the litter😊 of 4 females.

I have first(and only) pick with the lighter parents litter and the breeder was going to send me pics of the females from the litter of 5 girls so i can compare them and see which I would like. All of her pups are spoken for at this time, but no one has visited her home to pick their little furball out lol. I can get a female from the large litter or get the only female from the second litter. Personality is the major deciding factor for me(and I like the "teddy bear faces").

Bonnie has a teddy bear face but the reason I chose her is because she calmly walked over a started smelling me while her litter mates were jumping and climbing on me. After she smelled my hand, she licked me and looked up at me. It was love at first sight😊

We were so blessed to have any pic. I wanted a girl this time. There were two to choose from. The tiny cute one or the one that was a little bigger but looked like she would be a stinker. I COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO. Came home and when talking with my friend over and over the conversation ended with her saying I think you already made up your mind. I then realized all I talked about was puppy no. two (the one that looked like a brat):)
Decision made. Best one in my life!!

She is cayyyuuuute! My breeder held onto Rasta for me, she thought I would absolutely love him and she was right! The 5 puppies born to the first litter are so cute but they're all cute lol. They just kind of look identical right now so hopefully in the next few weeks differentiating features will show. The singleton looks perfect imo lol she's only a few days old and marked beautifully.

When I went to find a female pup I already had a male pup. I located a breeder on line who had a female I liked her looks, so I put a deposit on her. When I got to the breeders home I was so surprised that I wasn't feeling any connection to this female pup. I asked the breeder if it would be alright to choose another pup from the litter.

There were two pups I was feeling a definite connection to. I asked the granddaughter which pup is the troublemaker, the aggravater, the stinker of the litter. She immediately pointed to one of the ones I was attracted to.

He ended up coming home with me, so I didn't end up with my girl but I was fine with it. I just love him to pieces. It was personality not looks that had my heart. :)

You have waited so long to get the pup that you specifically wished for, lighter, bigger, etc, it is confusing the choice to offer you different ones that are probably darker and smaller. Stick to what you want, unless you feel that girl may have health issues.

Yes, I did find it a bit confusing that she offered me a pup from the first litter of 5 girls. Although I think it has to do with the fact that their mother is her favorite female out of her 2 females(she stays out of trouble lol) and she has a preference for the darker colors. I've spoken with owners of the lighter colored sire/dams puppies and no health issues have cropped up in their years of ownership except for one owner having a few retained teeth extracted. I'm not expected to put a deposit down for another 5/6 weeks so hopefully personality/features will begin to manifest.

Have you gotten your male fixed yet? I would not bring in a female until that's done.

Gonna take that as a no. It seems weird a breeder would be ok with you having two of her dogs possibly from the same parents that are opposite sex and not fixed together. Just seems like an "accident" waiting to happen. Reputable breeders always have a spay/neuter contract also unless the dogs are being shown so that seems strange as well.

You can take it however you want it hunni. My thread isn't about whether or not my dogs(yes that's plural) are fixed. But just so you know since it's obviously your business:rolleyes: they're not. Male or female and I've had no "accidents" with either of them. Yes they can happen and I'm not going to negate that or argue with you about my family's decisions which have no effect on you. I have a very good relationship with my breeder and she has no problems with me having unaltered pets(this does not apply to her other puppy parents). I have my reasons for having unaltered pets and unless you're paying my bills or for their veterinary upkeep leave their health care to me and I'll leave Callie's to you...unless of course you ask for my opinion concerning that particular matter. Now, as the thread says " Did your breeder pick Callie for you or did you pick her yourself?" Your opinion concerning that would be appreciated.

I just care about the females here there is a high risk for Poymentra in unfixed females just saw a dog get emergency surgery for it and still die a month later and been hearing more about this happening lately. It's just not safe to have unfixed females. And whether the breeder is reputable is a big thing about whether she should pick the pup or not. I just am confused about several things. In a post you said your male doesn't get alone with other dogs why would you want to put a pup in harms way with that? Don't you think neutering him could make him less aggressive?
