Manuka Honey Has anyone tried Manuka Honey for their dogs? I heard it is great for GI problems. Also great to coat the throat. I am trying it on my dog since he has acid reflux problems and it makes him have this hacking clearing of the throat due to irritation on the throat. Also read it is great for allergies to which he has, Anyone try it and have good results with it |
I've always read that local honey is better - if you can really know that your honey is actually local. For acid reflux, I would go with what my vet suggests after exam and diagnosis. When Tibbe was suspected of having acid reflux, he would partially regurgitate stomach acid with a belch-like action, begin to taste with his mouth, apparently the stomach acid would burn his throat, and a bit would aspirate and he'd begin reverse sneezing. His vet recommended giving him a small dose of Pepcid x2 weeks and it worked wonders - stopped both the belching up acid and the reverse sneezing. |
How long did it take for the pecid to work. He has been on it since MOnday and he threw up yellow bile this morning. I give him 1/4 in morning and 1/4 a pill at night. |
About 3 - 5 days, as I recall. But if something is irritating the esophagus, the cause of the reflux rushing acid where it doesn't belong, needs to be looked into and treated, if possible, as treating a symptom is often only covering up a bigger problem. |
