yorkie temprament Hi. I have a yorkie bichon mix. He is very aloof and doesn't like hanging out with the family very much. I have a friend who has a full yorkie and she says her yorkie is very hot and cold. I was thinking of getting a pure bred yorkie and I really want a velcro dog that will love me a lot. Are yorkies just too independent for that kind of thing? |

I agree that it is the luck of the draw. But perhaps if you can, spend some time with the puppy to see if you can get a feel for it's disposition. We got extremely fortunate with Bailey. He's so velcro, he won't leave one of our sides no matter what. That's good and bad. When my wife and I leave at the same time, he freaks out, but in a good way. Now that he knows we'll be back, he will sit on a blanket on the couch in the den. However, if we are getting picked up by friends for a night out and we go out the front door, he will sit at that front window until we return. How do I know? Because when my wife goes out the front to walk with a friend, he will not leave that window by the door until she returns, even thought I'm home. I guess I'm chopped liver! lol |
I agree depends on the dog.boo is very lovey when HE's in the mood. Othertimes hes busy with playtime or what. Ever. |
I agree...I don't think there is a personality guarantee. I have three Yorkies which came to live with me as adults of various ages, and there are typically three Yorkies orbit-ing our feet at all times, keeping our laps warm, sitting beside us, bringing toys for playtime, and wanting to go wherever we go and do whatever we do. I think perhaps the breeder can advise you about the specifics of puppies typically seen in their lines. Sorry...that probably isn't much help...LOL |
I will tell you that I have never known a dog like our Yorkie, Ginger. We have had her for one month. (She was 8.5 months when we got her.)From the moment we brought her home, her favorite place was in arms. She enjoys my 10 years old twin daughters as well and my husband too, but she really wants to be with me. For example, if we are out somewhere and someone else is holding her, she is constantly wiggling and trying to get back to me. My other dogs were always so hyper around other people it was an embarrassment. Now as nice as this attachment is, we are also dealing with seperation issues. I am curious to see how any of this will change over time! |
