Cats and Dogs :doghop: Hi not posted in a while! Just been thinking about my little Alfie and how he plays with our two kittens -male and female, roughly 8 months old- He loves to stand over them and his tail goes mad! He gets the kittens attention and they rub up all over him, he clearly loves this as he then gets on top of the kitten and proceeds to hump it! He is a year and nine months old so i imagine he is just acting like the young boy that he is ..... Just wondering if anybody else has this or if its just my little man being an odd bod ;) |
First let me say I do not think anything is abnormal about this but I will tell you what happend to out pup when I was a kid. I do believe this vet was a bad vet but was the only vet near where we lived a small town in Ks. We had 400 people in the whole town. When I was a really young kid we had a weinner dog and a small kitten well he would hold down the kitten and try to mate with it my mom took him to the vet for a check up and ask about the humping. she didn't return with our pup she told us that the vet said that something was wrong with him and the vet put him to sleep. Just wanted to share incase a vet ever tells you this get a second opinion it broke my heart for years and now I've heard lots of dogs do it that it's normal. |
I kind of doubt there's anything wrong with your boy. If they are his only companions, he may just not 'notice' they are 'different' but I think I would discourage the behavior anyway. Reasons I would discourage this activity...redirect attention to other activities...is safety for your boy as well as your kitties. Kitties have very sharp claws, and at that range, if the kitties decide they aren't willing participants in the game, well, eyes don't grow back. I do know lots of kitty / puppy friendships...I have had many here...and I would encourage that part...but I think I would try to keep it platonic so no one gets hurt, including you...LOL |
I don't think it's abnormal at all. You can just redirect him when he does it...my dogs have a "lover dog" - a stuffed dog who they take on dates, if you know what I mean ;). |
He is probably just trying to demonstrate his dominance over the youngsters. That is, unless he has not been neutered. |
