Teddy drives me nuts, sometimes! His belly band came through the mail today which means I was excited since I can now use the restroom, cook, clean etc. without worrying that inattention for the briefest of moments = new, unimproved and wet decoration somewhere in my home. HOWEVER, his anxiety has ramped up 100 million times as a result of wearing his band. He cries, whines, howls and barks at EVERYTHING and has been doing this for the last eight hours. I have ignored him and corrected him when he barks AT me but it is very trying and exhausting since I have research due Thursday and he is distracting me to the point of no return. I do feel sorry for him. He has no idea why he's dressed like Karate Kid complete with black belt...lol! And, he walks in the shape of an L because, obviously, the belt is crippling :p I checked to make sure it wasn't too snug and I can put four fingers between the band and his back so I'm assuming the fit is okay.. SIGH - just another day with anxious Teddy. We have a lot in common apart from I don't lift my leg to pee on my stuff...yet. |
When my teddy first stared wearing it, he thought he couldn't walk. Now it is no big deal. It just takes time, plus I used lots if treats. |
When I introduce something new like that, I immediately take them to do an activity they love. Go for a walk, play fetch, do agility, do tricks, something like that. Then they focus on the activity they love and not the band. And voila they get used to the band. Not too late to start now. Today. Also have you done tethering and or xpen or crate confinement? Xpens can be cleansed thoroughly of pee smells and markings - one of the joys of xpens. And it confines the mistakes to one area as well. |

dog I laughed as you described your Teddy. Yes the belly band must be like wearing a diaper. Whatever it takes to get them to not mark stuff. You should see JoJo when he has an accident. Usually it is because he is mad I went out and left him home. He knows what he did. Hangs his head and looks pathetic. All for the love of a dog we Yorkie lovers will just clean it up and move on. Hope the dog gets the message! |
I gave up this winter on Gunner. As long as he only goes in the laundry room in one spot and is easy to clean up all is good. |
Make sure you change the pad frquently. They can like a baby get raw. Boo rolls on his back and wiggles out of it if he can. But if he dont go outside he gets it i use walmarts cheepest thin pads. |
:D Oh Misty....I've never used a belly band on Harry - but your description made me just laugh sooo hard....:D So, obviously no advice here - but happy to hear you're not peeing up the walls too - yet!!! :D xx |
hahaha, hi all :) I should have pointed out that the reason Teddy is wearing his belly band is because he's marking. He's been potty trained since he was 14 weeks old. He is a very anxious little dog and he's also a diva. He's like my twin in canine form..:yelrotflm Yeah, things are bad when I start laughing at my own lame jokes! But, ANYWAY, he's better today. He's sulking in his bed and watching me move around the house from the corners of his eyes. When he thinks I'm occupied or he's out of my line of sight, he furiously tries to bite through his band. Then, I look at him and he pretends he wasn't doing anything but trying to recover from some terminal affliction. This is so much better than having to hear him randomly chirp like he was doing yesterday. Every time he did this, I almost spilled my drink thinking he'd hurt himself! At least I might get some work done, today! Deadline tomorrow :eek: |
