Cold Weather This is our new puppy Chloe, she is 18 weeks old. For those of you who live in the North, do you recommend wearing sweaters? She is an indoor dog, but I do not want her to be cold. |
How warm do you keep your house? I am overprotective so I would keep probably keep something on her. However I would take the clothing off if she is a heavy duty play session. When they are sleeping the clothing goes back on. I could literally spend all day taking her clothes off and putting them back on.:D Yesterday, Dutch had her pj's on all day:p because it was really cold and because she's just so darn cute in them. |
It's a personal choice really. I live in the Washington, DC area and it hasn't necessarily been bitterly cold to me. I haven't put on boots or sweaters. She doesn't shiver or seem cold. She likes to go outside and explore. But we don't stay out long either. In the house, she doesn't wear clothes. |
If you are going out for walks, then definitely. We live in Wisconsin, and when I let them out to potty I don't put anything on them. Lexi hates all clothing anyway, so it's just not worth it. She runs out, goes potty, and runs back in as fast as she can. |
Mine wears sweaters all the time. |
1 Attachment(s) We live in Ohio, our heat is set at 70 degrees but Willow always has a sweater or fleeze on. She is papertrained and stays in during the cold temps. She loves wearing them. |
I have my thermostat set for 71 degrees, Cody is kept in a puppy cut, he weighs 12 lbs, I don't put clothes on him while he is indoors, night time thermostat set to 65 / 66, he snuggles up against me when we go to bed. For quick potty he runs out does his business and runs back in if he's cold, most times he has to be nosy, may stay out another minute or two to see if there is any action going on in the woods, out side daytime temps have mid to low 20's down to teens at night. For walks I put on sweater or his coat. Your Willow is a little cutie, if she likes being dressed indoors and is not over heated she is comfortable. I think indoor temp. of 70 should be warm enough to not have to put clothes on willow, her cut looks the same as my Cody's, but if she comfortable keep it on her. |
thank you :) yep she loves it |
We also keep our heat set at 70/71 and Lexi is comfortable in that temp. She also has a puppy cut. She sleeps on a fleece blanket at night which helps keep her warm at night. |
I live in ohio. But if its in teens i put his sweater on outside, i keep temp at 70 inside and he gets to warm with it on inside, If he shivers iwould for sure leave it on all the time. |
Nah, Jackson hates wearing clothes inside... he just never seems cold in the house, seems pointless. Even the young pup doesn't get cold too easily. I don't put anything on them for quick potty breaks etc, but if we're going to be outside for long periods, I'll put a coat or hoodie on them. |
Outside Dexter wears flannel pj's with his parka over top. He tolerates up to about -25c for short walks. Inside he's naked :D We keep the temp in the house around 15c. We did have a really cold snap with a few days in the -45c range and he started burrowing under the blanket on the couch so I put his jammies on him then. |
Mine don't wear any clothes inside. Daisy has a thick cotton coat and she would be way too hot in clothing. Disappointing because she has so many cute jammies and things. :D. Daisy doesn't need a coat or sweater outside unless it is pretty cold and we are taking a walk. Teddy gets cold easily so he almost always has a light coat or heavier one on walks. If he gets cold lying in the window surveying the neighborhood, I usually throw a little blanket on him. He hates clothes. |
We are in Ontario Canada and kinda in the vicinity of a lake. It gets cold here. I put Pao in a jacket sometimes 2 layers when he's out in backyard to pee or do #2 even if it's just a minute or two. He is older now, on low fat diet ( post pancreatitis) and I find that his body can't regulate temperature as well as he used to so I keep him warm. I always touch his ears and if its really cold, usually it is because he feels cold. He also shivers quite a bit indoor so he has sweaters on. Our temp is usually set at 21 celsius during day and 18C at night. He does wear a sweater at night to sleep and if he's cold at night he'll tap me with his paws and I put his blankie on him. For that reason I've multiple blankies so I can just pull one without opening my eyes and put it on him without getting up. If he drags that one elsewhere and comes back to tap me again, I've another one lol! |
ZoE isn't a fan of clothes. I keep my house at 66 during the day and 60 at night. She knows she has to have a sweater or coat on to go play outside in the winter or to go for a ride in the car, so she tolerates it. It's kinda funny to watch her and how clear she makes her displeasure of having to put clothes on. She runs away when she sees a sweater and then will slowly walk to me. My last yorkie liked sweaters when she was cold. I kept them in a bin and she would go pull one out and bring it to me to put on her when it was chilly. I will always remember the time when out power was out during a winter storm, and she already had a sweater on, and she brought me another one! |
