Sick Yorkie - pancreatitis Hey Everyone, I'm very new to this site but as the title of this thread suggests we have a very sick dog at the house. We had our 7 year old yorkie, Dolche, in the Vet hospital for several days and unfortunately she has developed blood clots in her lungs due to pancreatitis. According to the hospital her pancreatitis has gotten better. They sent her home with plavix and some pain meds but we can not get her to eat. Our fear is she will succumb to starvation before we can get her back to health. She does drink water in small portions. Dolche is about 8 pounds so she doesn't have a lot of weight to lose. Just looking to see if anyone has any suggestions....we are going to get a syring and baby food and put it in the side of her mouth just to see if we can get some of it in her stomach. And we are not under any illusions that this could end badly but we want to fight! Thank You. |
Sick Have you had an ultrasound? That is very serious your baby is in my prayers. |
They did several ultrasounds as well as x-rays prior to those. And thank you for the prayers we're doing a lot of that too! |
Have you seen a specialist? That is where I would be....sounds very serious. I know there is an awesome place in Charlotte, but don't know the name of it. I can get it for you if you are interested. Just got it... Carolina Vet Specialists |
Thank You for the information ladyjane, I will look them up! |
Good luck...please let us know how things are going. |
So far we are ahead of the battle. Praise God! We called the vet and they prescribed prednisone to try to increase her appetite. We then started feeding her by a oral syringe baby food chicken watered down. She doesn't spit it up. We've done that for 2 days now. |
So far Dolche has been doing very well. We started giving her cooked chicken and rice last week and she is now eating her normal food but we are slowly changing her diet. less preservatives, no more plate food or snacks. She has a checkup today and is still on the Plavix and predinsone. AT some point will will have to look at a tumor that they found while looking at her lungs, but I think we want to get her over this hurdle first. Thanks again for the well wishes and prayers. |
Oh, I am so happy to hear that there is some improvement! Thanks so much for the update! Will keep her in my prayers... |
I hope your baby keeps improving |
After about a month Dolche looks like she is out of the woods. She is playful again, eating us out of house and home, and her propeller tail is going 90 miles an hour. We are so blessed that she is doing well. We will need the to go back and have them look at the mass that they found in her lung but for the moment the vet is not terribly concerned. I will probably not post to this thread anymore, so I want to say Thank you and God Bless you to everyone that said a prayer or had a kind thought. And I am glad that I found this community. I have pictures that I will be posting. Some of my favorite are of the puppies, which we had four litters of ... a total of 13 puppies. God Bless |
I'm so glad to hear your baby made it through such a scary ordeal! Glad to hear all is well again :) |
I am so happy you stuck with it and took such wonderful care of her!!! She has a wonderful mommy and I will add her to my prayers to continue getting better and stronger. |
That is awesome! |
