Sophie's bad eating habits I have tried so many dry foods for Sophie and I cannot get her to eat dry food. I have tried wet food and the only one I can even get her to try is the Caesar. Even with Caesars she still does not eat regular. She will eat good for a couple days and then not eat for a couple days. Can anyone suggest a dry and wet food that she might eat? I know Sophie is hungry because she will go into the kitchen and whine. HELP! |
What a tough one...this has to be so frustrating for you. Have you tried Nature's Logic yet...maybe you could get a sample? I feed pre-made raw - either by Primal or Natures Variety, I don't know if that's something you'd want to try or not. |
Do you give her any people food. That will cause them to stop eating theirs. If not i use welness core. I have a finiky eater she eats wellness along with my yorky. Try mixing it in with your wet. Altho my finicky dog picked the dry out and left it. I dont like wet. It clings to their teeth. |

My Duchess is notoriously picky. After going through countless brands of dog food both wet and dry, I finally think I found a winning combination. I mix either boiled chicken or shredded cheese in her wet food. I make sure it is mixed well or she would just eat the boiled chicken. It's been several months and she is still eating it. The other concoction was dry food mix with her wet food and warm water. She loves that too. You have to find the right combination. She won't eat just wet food or dry food, it has to be mixed with something, usually boiled chicken. She will move mountains for boiled chicken. She eats twice a day and I am happy to say she eats all of her food. She's actually turning into a little piggy. |
That is tough and I wish I had an answer but my guy eats anything I put in front of him. I was just told he is 1 pound over weight and he is only 11 months old. Have you tried all different kinds of food? I know Sammie loved Blue Buffalo |
You have my sympathies... This sounds just like Annie! I have tried every dog food out there. Nature's Recipe grain free wet food is the only one she will touch. I sprinkle a tiny bit of Parmesan cheese on it. That works half the time. I've actually had to sit on the floor and hand feed it to her sometimes. Trying not to make that a habit, but she gets the heaves if she doesn't eat. |
Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. I will try them all until I find something that works. Hopefully! |
Is there another dog around, maybe you can feed them around each other. That's the only way Joel learned to eat is if he thought a dog was going to get his food, other than that he would never eat but now he's a great eater, a little to good sometimes:p |

My little sophie is the same I feed her organix which she doesn't mind but I have to put a bit of orijen freeze dry food on top then hand feed her the first couple of pieces each morning. But if she hasn't eaten much the day before her tummy is upset from being so empty that I give her a little canned pumpkin first and again that off my finger so she will eat that also so her sugar isn't low we give her a few honey nut cheerios and she loves them. Good luck |
I agree, hand feeding kibble always worked with Tyson. He is now hooked on Canidae Grain Free kibble :D |
