Groomer's respondsibility questions?? I took my dog to the groomers as usual picked her up got home noticed her nail was bleeding it turns out the groomer cut too low on one of her black nails. I called the groomer to find out what happened they replied "Oh we thought we had it stopped. Put some flour or corn starch or flour and it should stop or Bring her back and we'll put a little band-aid on it" I did some online looking and basically found that its sort of common for accidental clipping too low to occur especially with all black nails. I also found out that the regular nice lady who grooms did not this time. Do you think they should have told me she got nicked WHEN I picked her up? Or am I making too much of this if it is rarely common so to speak? Should I look elsewhere just for the fact that my dog may be traumatized now by that place? I must say before this happened and with the regular lady grooming I have zero complaints with this groomer? |
It can be very easy to cut the quick, especially if your dog is one whose quick is always closer to the end, like our Wylie. We brought Wylie to 3 different groomers when he was a pup, and all 3 cut his quick...he was totally traumatized by it. After the 3rd time, we've never used a groomer again - for any of our 4. We only trust ourselves to do it the way we want our babies treated. To this day, btw, 10 years later - Wylie is totally terrified of having his nails trimmed...it can really leave lasting and traumatizing memories bc it's painful. I would either groom yourself and/or just always remind your groomer that your kiddo's quick has been cut before and that they need to be very cautious. And yes, I'd prefer I was told if a groomer cut my kiddo's quick. |
Any nicks, cuts, too close of a clip, I would expect to be advised of. But nails can get clipped too short, even I have done it once or twice. Because of your good experience with the previous groomer, I would call the salon and ask to speak with the manager. I would lay out my expectations and my desire to have only this groomer - groom my dog. |
I would expect to be told. I probably wouldn't make too big of a deal out if it but I would tell them how I feel and that I wouldn't be back. I would take my dog to someone else because I don't think that's good customer service. Just my thoughts on it. If you like the original lady and would like her to groom be sure you ask for her specifically. |
It is soooo easy to cut a black nail too short....I NEVER get mine clipped short enough, because I am so scared of cutting them too short! My vet always goes behind me and recuts nails! My groomer, who I adored, (she still does my dogs if we are going for professional pics), used to do like a rental car....we went over the entire dog before she accepted the pup in, and when I picked the baby up, we again went over every inch of the pup, and she easily and deliberately mentioned any "grooming accident" that had been made...nail cut too close, small scratch inside an ear from groomer's nail as she cleaned ears, ......those are the only "accidents" we ever encountered. I would continue to use this groomer if you like the lady that normally does your baby. I would just make absolutely certain that SHE does your dog, and in the future, you would really appreciate knowing if any little grooming accidents occur, even if they are as simple as cutting into the quick on a nail. |
I don't think that is a big deal at all. It happens. |
[QUOTE=Yorkiemom1;4522775]It is soooo easy to cut a black nail too short....I NEVER get mine clipped short enough, because I am so scared of cutting them too short! My vet always goes behind me and recuts nails! I dread clipping nails more than anything. I've since started using the dremel sanding down the nails a bit at a time every 5-6 days because Guinness' nails grow like weed. |
