Just curious for some opinions about our new little guy's coloring and name. 3 Attachment(s) We just welcomed a new family member. He came to us a little differently. My son is at college and fell in love with his sister. When he found out he was available and sent a picture, we fell in love. We have been planning to get another puppy for a while, and what can I say, he is adorable and fitting in wonderfully. His parents are supposedly both yorkies, but his coloring is different. He definitely has a yorkie face. It doesn't matter to us what he is but I was just curious if anyone had any opinions. He has a solid black stripe down his back that is about an inch and a half wide. His feet are lighter and the rest is tan and black mixed. I feel like there has to be a mix somewhere down the line. He almost has a Brussels Griffon coloring to me. I have attached 3 photos in different lighting. Any opinions would be appreciated. We are also having trouble naming him. Any suggestions? |
He does have a little non traditional coloring to him in the last photo so I can understand why you may be questioning if he is all Yorkie, but I am no expert. He looks very young yet. How old is he? It's really hard to tell when they are still very young as they go through so many changes with their hair coat. Good luck naming him, I'm not much help in that department either, LOL. He is adorable though. May he bring so much love and joy to your house. |
Thank you! He is already such a great addition! He is going to the vet tomorrow, but the information we received said about 10 weeks. Mind you all this info. came from my college son who isn't big on details.;) I managed to find out what kind of food he was on and if he had had any shots. He seems to have most of his teeth and is eating dry dog food with no problems. He is also very active and moves like lightning. I don't remember Charlie being this active when we brought him home a 12 weeks! Maybe I just don't remember. |
He's just adorbs, my gosh! He looks yorkie to me, and perhaps just one of the darker colored ones. I would think his black "stripe" may spread out/even out/dissipate with time, maybe? |
Thanks everyone for your input. We went to the vet yesterday and she said he is about 9 or 10 weeks and very healthy. He weighs a whopping 2 lbs. She said she could be more sure about his age when he goes back for his booster in about a month. His mouth is so small, it's hard to tell exactly without a good point of reference. She said that he looks like a yorkie to her by his head shape and body size, but he could have a little mix somewhere down the line. She said they go through so many color changes it is hard to tell what is normal at this stage. It is hard to estimate his adult size. She said he could range from 5-10 lbs depending on if he is mixed or not. The funny thing is that I was talking to the Employee at the testing center at my school and showing her pictures because she has two yorkies. Before I could mention Gibson's coloring, she told me that he looked like her little Paislee and that she had black stripe down her back, just like Gibson!! She showed me an adult picture of her and she is very light, almost blonde all over and she is registered, so it could just be a color variation. Not that any of that really matters. We are just glad he is healthy and happy and we are pround to have him in our family. We decided to name him Gibson and use Gibby for short. He is a doll! |
