Crate training and sleeping? I'm getting a yorkie mixed from the humane society. I planned on crate training her and letting her sleep with me at night. Would that be a good idea or just confuse her? |
I would see how she is when you bring her home. You may want to put the crate next to your bed until you see if she is housebroken. Aftewr you see if she goes all night in the crate without an accident put her in your bed. When are you getting her and how old is she? I can't wait to here an update and see pictures. |
What do you mean by crate training her? If she is sleeping with you at night, when will she be in the crate mostly? Good luck if you decide to get her and put in a picture! Welcome to YT! |
she's about 8 months old. and about crate training..i was going to do that while i'm in school. Thanks for the welcome! |
8 months should be good for sleeping with you, make potty training easy, too. How big is she? Do you have a name picked out for her yet? New puppies are so exciting and fun - good luck! |
she seems like the right height for a yorkie but she seems kind of long for one. shes about 12-19 inches long. I'm not sure if thats avg. for a yorkie. But its ok cause she's soo adorable! I've been visiting her at the Humane Society almost everday. I think she knows that I'm going to adopt her. Her name is Buttercup. I've been calling her that since i've been visiting her and i think she learning her name! :) I'm so excited! I think i'm going to pick her up tomorow or Friday. |
1 Attachment(s) Buttercup is a beautiful name! I think Zowie is long, too. They are supposed to be square in height and length, but I still think she is beautiful. I just took this pic about an hour ago. She wasn't being cooperative, I had to chase her down. Can't wait to see a picture of Buttercup! |
she's SO CUTE!!!!! |
Thanks! I love her. I know you will love having a Yorkie, I think they are just better than any other kind of dog, and I have had many over the years. They are special. |
My 8-week old puppy slept with me from the first night I got him. As instructed, I gave him cottage cheese every night before we went to bed. (It was supposed to have a lot of protein and stay with him better - and help both of us get more sleep). It worked - and he slept 6 to 8 hours every night. He did pee in the bed once or twice (very little). After that I put a belly band on him. He still sleeps all night - and almost never pees. With the belly band on - if he does - it is no problem. HOWEVER- this guy is no angel - and he certainly does his fair share of peeing during the day. He's still on the pad and off the pad. Carol Jean |
Congrats on your new puppy!!!! I crate mine at night because I just worry too much with them in bed. I also worry about them jumping off and getting hurt (they are prone to luxating patella). Lots of people sleep with them and have no problem. You will need to decide for yourself. You will have to see what her personality is first. If she is too rowdy and won't settle down then you will probably have to crate her. Remember to cover the crate, it calms them. My Cowboy lets me know if I forget to cover his crate at night (which is on the nightstand next to my bed). Let us know when you get her and be sure to post pictures so we can all fall in love with her too! WELCOME TO YT! |
