Had babies fixed concerned. Okay brought my babies home from surgery. Boo my yorky boy and princess my girl papilon. Boo seems to be doing good just hates the cage. A little restless. Ihave taken them out to go. Even tried to let them on the bed. Boo wants to roam so leaving them in the cage. But princess is who im concerned about. She just is so tired but just stands her tummy hurts i guess when she layes down. Is this normal the humaine society who did it said its probably the anithesia. But i would think she would lay down. Im worried about her did your girls do that. Boo ate a little. Only half what he should eat. Princess wants nothing. Which i figure its harder on the girl more invasion. Just wish she could lay down my poor darlin. She also hates the cage. Neither one likes the cage. |
I don't know how they should be acting but if I were you, I'd call my vet & have him/her check them out just to be sure they're okay. |
I didn't even create mine after getting fixed. It's okay to let them walk around, you just have to try and keep them from running and jumping for a few days. As far as the girl, i don't remember mine having a problem laying down. Maybe find a really soft blanket for her to lay on. The first day or two mine didn't want to do to much anyway. |
Does she have pain meds? My girl toy poodle was spayed last summer. She mostly slept the first night, but was up and moving well the next day. Vet said be sure she got the pain meds regularly for the first few days. My male was neutered last month. He barely missed a beat, and it was difficult to keep him from jumping on the furniture. I gave him a couple of doses of the pain meds, but he obviously did not need them. I made a bed on the floor and slept with them both the first few nights. Diana |
Through the years, when any of my female Yorkies were spayed, they were given pain medication. I was told little dogs have a harder time coping with the surgery, but I'm certain it's painful to all dogs, large or small. They were given pain medication for three days. Not all vets prescribe medication, but if there is any way you can get some for them, it would probably help a lot. I've found that my babies were always much more needy while on pain medication, probably because it alters their brain while on it, but I feel it helps them to heal quicker and is far more humane. If they are on medication, that may be making Princess more tired. Each day gets better, though. I never had any of my little ones not lay down. I'm sure it's painful for Princess. I hope tomorrow is much brighter for all of you. |
Both of mine also got pain meds. 3 days worth, I believe. If you didn't get any, I would call and ask to get some if she is feeling uncomfortable. |
She finally layed down hopefully she can rest now. Boo however is yipping to get out. But hes to much of a mover and jumper. So afraid i wont catch him and he will get hurt. Even tried a leash and he wont be still. This is gonna be a very long week. I only have had one dog spayed only because she had problems with birth. Had an emergency spay. Its been a long time ago.cant remember much now. But i know this is best for both. |

Pain med not only takes the edge off the pain, it also sedates them some, so that the ones that want to run all over the house and yard, calm down a tad and just relax for a day or two, for things to start to heal. Be sure they get the pain meds as ordered! They may have to be adjusted from the initial dosage....watch your babies and make that judgement...contact the vet and ask if you can give more/give less/give more frequently/give less frequently.... |
My vet said he's required by law to give pain meds. Anyway Lola was very drugged the first night, she ate some chicken and drank some water, I had to limit her on both. Other than that she basically just slept, we slept on the floor that night. The next day we slept in my bed, she was much less drugged and was ok doing her snoozer scalloped steps. I didn't have to do much to restrict her, she stood on her hind legs once, realized it hurt, and didn't try again and she only wore her blow up cone when I couldn't watch her. She would lay half on her side and half on her belly, her back legs together and to the side, for a few months while she was healing. She was also picky about how she was carrier for a few months, I used to carry her with her back legs between my elbow and body and she wanted her outer back leg on my arm. |
Poor little thing! I hope she feels much better tomorrow! |
I'm glad she finally laid down :( poor baby. Hoping princess is looking up in the morning- hugs to you too mama, your distress is evident  |
When our golden retriever was neutered the vet gave us a sedative for him in addition to the pain med. if he doesn't settle you might want to ask for something from the vet. It would make it a little easier on you both. |

Piper had it a bit tough as she was coming in heat when spayed. My vet said to try to keep her from jumping on/off furniture and to give pain medication a couple of hours after returning home. Shortly after returning home, poor little Piper couldn't get comfortable and began stretching her little neck, in addition to shifting her position constantly. I called my vet and she said Piper was exhibiting signs of being in pain and to give her pain medication right away instead of waiting. Within 15 min of getting medication, Piper slept. By the end of day two she was jumping off couch--just too fast for me to intercede--but none-the-worse-for-wear--Piper, not me, I was a wreck!!! Anyway, they say patients who take pain medication as prescribed, heal days quicker than those who "tough" their way through it...I hope both your little ones are back to perky and healthy soon. |
I don't think anyone has mentioned this, but you also need to keep them from licking the incision and stitches until the stitches come out--that was our biggest issue with Bella. We had to use an inflatable e-collar. |
