Flea Market Sales Hello everyone! Our city of Mobile AL is fighting to FINALLY change an ordinance on the selling of flea market puppies. I found this forum from google and a thread from 2012 about a members terrible experience she had at the Mobile AL flea market with puppies and the backyard breeders that sell their dogs there. If anyone is passionate about this subject or know anyone in the Mobile area that is, please come to the Public Safety Hearing Tuesday, the 13th at 1pm in the downtown courthouse Thanks! |
This is a WONDERFUL step your city is making to stamp out the selling of puppy mill babies!! THIS is the kind of action that will curb breeding of puppy mills....if there is no place for these people to DUMP their ill bred, sick, unvaccinated babies to unsuspecting people that are clueless about what they are actually getting, the mills will eventually be forced out of business. To effectively get rid of unethical breeders and puppy mills, you MUST cut off their source of income. If it is illegal to sell puppies at flea markets, garage sales, street corners, shopping center parking lots, outside grocery stores, and on the side of the road out of the trunk of their car, they will have no place to dump their pups.....as soon as they start incurring any expenses, it is no longer advantageous to breed and sell puppies. This step your city is taking is sooooooo important! If there were laws that forced breeders to sell only VACCINATED puppies, talk about a choke hold on the problem!!!!! Add a law that requires breeders to have any puppy they sell, microchipped as well as at least 12 weeks old, they must provide a new owner with a vet's health certificate asserting the pup has been examined and vaccinated, wormed, microchipped and the puppy is healthy, and you are really going to see puppy mills fold and drop like flies!! Everyone out there in Mobile Alabama needs to show up and support the cause!!!!! |
Welcome and thanks for posting this. :) |
Thank you! This is the 3rd meeting on this topic. Who knew it would take so much discussion? We already have a law in place that these puppies are to be vaccinated and 9 weeks old, HOWEVER, there is not enough man power to enforce these regulations so we are still seeing fake vac cards, sick puppies and puppies much too young to be weaned. More man power means more tax dollars from the rest of us to help this small group of people make easy money from these poor backyard pups. If anyone knows a reputable breeder for any breed or a kennel club member close to this area that would come speak, it would be tremendously beneficial. Thank you in advance! |
Yay! I live across the country but just want to thank you for your service to these wonderful dogs. Please keep us posted as to how this goes. Maybe other states will pick up the fight. |
