New 2 group... what to call all white YT? I have a momma dog that just had a litter of pups on xmas. One was all white and she continues to remain all white. What do I call her coloring? Is this rare or more common than announced? |
Hi and welcome to YT. If her parents were both yorkies, then I guess she'd be an all white parti yorkie....? I dunno, lol! |
Hi! Congratulations on your pups and momma being healthy following welping. I am assuming this to be the case, anyway. I didn't see pictures...perhaps I missed them, or if not, maybe you could upload some. My understanding, not being a breeder of Yorkshire Terriers, is they are born black and tan, then gradually the black turns blue, and black on their heads becomes tan so no black remains. Their breed standard talks about color and marking placement, but doesn't mention white except for, if I recall, a very small spot, perhaps on the chest or toes I think which disappears. I have seen it mentioned that the genetics can be not quite right and there can be 'running gold' that interferes/intermingles with their blue. I have one who was born black and tan but when she changed, all her black changed over time to gold. I think they call that a color fault, and it is a disqualification for being shown in conformation...which is not an issue because it wasn't in my plans anyway nor will she be bred, and she changed while with her previous owner. An all white dog at birth might be unusual but I would think because it is not, as I understand it, supposed to happen with purebred Yorkshire Terriers. I am aware that piebald (white spotting factor) can include deafness and blindness because of the way it works 'genetically' but a solid white dog with Yorkshire Terrier in its bloodline could also have a mix in its past, too. Not sure what else to say. There are some threads here that may help, including a very nice one about color. Again, congratulations, and welcome. I hope your puppies and momma thrive and are very healthy. |
Haven't heard of an all white pure breed Yorkie . . do you have pics of the baby and the parents that you could share ? |
I can't offer any help with the coloring but I will say that if this baby turns out to be a healthy pup (I'm praying so) you will have one adorable little yorkie on your hands. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread to see what the pros say! Post pictures when you can! |
Never heard of it. Are both parents AKC registered yorkies? |
I have to apologize for not knowing much scientific lingo so I am sure I will sound like an idiot but here is just a thought. I have heard of human twins having more than one baby daddy? Something about different sperm fertilizing different eggs? Could something like this have happened? Now don't be making fun of me. |

lololol Not making fun of you, was thinking the same thing, cats do it all the time and apparently so do humans....there have been many cases of twins having different daddies.....quite gross ya know...??? anyway.... all white concerns me here, is there NO OTHER color on these YT's? |
Following this thread...waiting to see what the pros say... |

Not a lot is known about the genetics of white coloration in dogs, but most of the mutations seem to be recessive. If the dog looks like a Yorkshire Terrier, I doubt that the white color is due to an accidental breeding. Have the ancestors of this dog always bred true for normal Yorkie colors? The reason I'm asking is that an extreme parti-colored Yorkie could appear to be all white... See White Coat Color in Dogs for a review of what is known about the genetics of white coat color in dogs. |
My male yorkie pure breed was yorkie color. when he passed away at age 7 he was intirely white. Go figure. Everyone I met just loved his color. Some asked for stud service. He was fixed. |
I agree sounds like a parti yorky. I was looking at yorky photos and seen an all white parti. Dont ask me where tho. |
1 Attachment(s) I got Pepper Jack from a breeder that had this girl. Only color is a little blond around one eye. She is from the same Dam and Sire as Pepper Jack. Dam looks traditional, but carries Parti. Sire is a Parti with more black. This girl had some dark spots on her skin, but white hair. She hears and sees just fine. I saw a picture of a white with a pinkish colored nose and eye rims yesterday on Facebook. Made me think of an Albino, but the eyes were dark. |
