Just almost had a heart attack I didn't want to put it in the title to scare anyone and Joel is fine but he almost died by getting trampled by a moose. So I let the dogs out in the backyard and I see a moose in the neighbors yard and then I get a feeling there's probably a moose in our yard because that's usually what they do. Then I see Joel has his eyes locked on something and Roxy starts doing her protection growl:eek: But it's pitch dark so I turn the porch light on and there's a huge moose standing in the middle of the yard and of course the little yorkie is trying to take it on and save everyone. I'm like screaming at the top of my lungs(I didn't know what else to do lol) while the moose is charging at Joel all across the yard kicking his feet foward at him, at one point he was so close I thought he got Joel but he was still running around and I knew he wouldn't be moving if he did get hit. Also it looked like Joel kept luring it away from the door where I was which in the end after I calmed down I thought was so cute:p Roxy is just standing there barking, being smarter than Joel at least and my sister comes running out with a ruler in her hand haha and when the dogs finally came in the moose still ran right up to the door! Which they never do that, he was just scared and mad. So yeah I'm so freaked:confused: I think I'll remember to check the yard next time because this happened a few weeks ago but the moose was laying down and wasn't even bothered by the dogs and the dogs just looked at it, went potty and came back inside, so I think they just both scared each other which made it worse. I checked Joel when he came in and he was just so happy wagging his tail like he was saying "I got it mom, I got it!!" Wish I could find a way to keep them out:( |
Fearless little buggers, aren't they? That would be scary, well, at least scary for we mere humans, a Yorkie on the other hand - not so much apparently. lol Big, Brave Joel! (I want to see pictures of your moose! I would move to Alaska just to experience that) |
Tiny dogs will try to take on the world glad there okay and mom. |

I don't have pics from this time obviously:p but these were from a few weeks ago. You can see a second moose on the other side of the fence. |
That's really neat. I am amused at the HUGE animal napping by the kid toys. lol Breathtaking, but I can see your point about the scary part. Sure beats a polar bear in your yard, though. Thank you for sharing the pictures. |
That's an awesome experience! Glad it worked out with no injuries. |
Good boy! Joel, The Mooseinator. |
How scary. Glad Joel was able to show them who was boss! |
wow how awful, I can just imagine what a wreck you must have been. you said you have a fence, how does the moose manage to get in. Must be scary at times in Alaska, I watch that HGTV show about buying home in Alaska seems like everyone needs a gun because of so many bears, I think they said they have classes on how to react to bear attacks. Do you have to worry about bears near where you live as well. |

I'm sure there are others but it's pretty rare. Sometimes I wish I lived in the more wilderness parts but unfortunately I'm too much of a city person lol. |
We used to take Aija deer hunting with us. They ran long horn cattle on that deer lease as well. We were sitting by the cabin one day, eating lunch after hunting that morning, and the cattle started coming into the camp. Aija, who weighed only 4 lbs at most, was barking her head off....one of those huge cows put its head down and was trying to sniff at this crazy little noise maker.....and Aija launched herself and latched right onto that cows nose/upper lip!!!!! I had visions of that cow turning and running off with my baby attached to its upper lip, dropping off in the woods someplace......but thank goodness, when I screeched and screamed, the startled cow jerked its head up, Aija released her hold on its lip and dog and cow were separated, with no injury to anyone. Never allowed THAT situation the opportunity to take place again! Injure/kill my dog once, shame on you....injure/kill my dog twice, shame on ME!!!! |
I'm so glad that he wasn't hurt. He probably thinks he scared the moose of and now thinks of Himself as Joel the invincible lol |

So glad that Joel and the Moose came out okay. |
Thank god brave lil Joel was ok, I would freak out if a buck was in my yard and my boy was going after it. I keep pots near my back door for bears, I bang them, bears run, but, my pups were never in the yard same time as the bears. Scary encounter for sure. These little critter are sooo fearless. |
