Picky Eater Problems So Macy is a little over three years old and a very picky eater. My boyfriend of 8 years and I recently split up, and she's not taking it well. She'll hardly eat her kibble. I've tried different brands. Over Christmas she didn't eat for about three days. (My ex was gone to his families, when he came back she ate.) I scrambled her two eggs tonight because I can't handle her not eating and she gobbled them up. I'm not sure what to do. Any ideas? I know she misses him and the cat he took with him. Has anyone experienced anything like this? |
Some on here have recommended sprinkling some parmesan cheese on top of kibble to entice eating. I'm sure others will have more suggestions for you soon. Personally, I have never experienced my dog not eating..he's always been a greedy little piglet! He does, sometimes, eat more than other times. However, anytime his appetite goes out of wack it usually corrects itself within a few days. |

It will take her time to adjust to BF being gone, she is pining his loss and most likely the cat loss. I went through this with my babies when one would pass away. just like ppl, they grieve and need time to adjust. Do what ever you have to do to get her to eat, many members do suggest sprinkling some parmesan cheese on to top of food as SirTeddykins suggested, hand feed if you have too. I am sure you are giving her extra attention, extra play time. If you leash walk her, give longer walk. Poor little babies just breaks your heart. |
Joan's quite right...there's been a whole lot of change in her little life now, and her world's been turned up-side down...:( Plus you're probably feeling sad and 'out-of-sorts' - and the Littlies really, really pick up on our moods :( So sad. I wonder if you've tried the good old recipe of chicken, rice and veggies, even if only for a day or two? As the others have said - anything's better than nothing :) I remember a couple of years ago, Andy (husband) had to go into hospital for a major op - and I think Harry felt totally abandoned. His dad had disappeared...I was rarely there due to visiting etc...everything was wrong, and he stopped eating. So for a while we went down the chicken/minced beef/finely cut steak route - or scrambled eggs (!!!) just until his little tummy got used to eating again. I really, really wish you luck, I know how worrying it can be xx |
Alright I went to the store today and picked up some Pedigree wet food pouches, turns out she loves them! She gobbled it up quickly. I don't know if she's depressed or just being picky. She doesn't like "good" dog food, unless another dog is eating it. Here's the ingredients on the pouches: SUFFICIENT WATER FOR PROCESSING, CHICKEN (SOURCE OF LINOLEIC ACID), MEAT BY-PRODUCTS, WHEAT FLOUR, WHEAT GLUTEN, STARCH, DRIED TOMATO POMACE, SALT, SODIUM TRIPOLYPHOSPHATE, MINERALS (POTASSIUM CHLORIDE, ZINC SULFATE, COPPER SULFATE, POTASSIUM IODIDE), SODIUM ALGINATE, TITANIUM DIOXIDE, GUAR GUM, ONION POWDER, CARAMEL COLORING, BAY LEAVES, NATURAL FLAVORS, VITAMINS (VITAMIN E, A & D3 SUPPLEMENTS, D-CALCIUM PANTOTHENATE, THIAMINE MONONITRATE [VITAMIN B1], BIOTIN), IRON OXIDE, GARLIC POWDER. Not too bad I guess, at least its actual chicken. |
Anything to get her to eat again! Maybe stir some of the good food in there with it? I can't recall the ingredients but we used some of the Wellness wet foods mixed with kibble at one point to entice our old guy to eat a little more. He's pretty good with finely chopped boiled chicken stirred into his kibble though. |
Try mixing cottage cheese in with her kibble. It works for Sammy |
