I dont know them well i know someone posted puppies that wanted to send them out young and they all said 12 weeks. Many had people posting the dogs the got from them. But i do not know more than that

I would say that $1200 is about average, Maybe a bit more or a little less. No one should be paying much more than $1500 for a pet quality dog no matter what additional expenses are incurred by the breeder. Charging extra for a pet that may look a little more extreme is price gouging no matter who is doing it.

If a breeder is trying to meet their expenses through the sale of their pet stock then they should not be doing it. The money brought in by puppy sales should not be what a breeder is depending on to conduct a proper breeding program. Puppy sales should only be a supplement to the program.

I paid $1,800.00 from a MI show breeder about 8 years ago and that seemed to be the going rate then. I think in NY it's even higher. I am on the Crazy Yorkie Ladies FB page most of those gals are hobby breeders and like I said in an early post there are some good ones but some not so good ones. Many hobby breeders have AKC registered dogs but as we know that stands for very little these days. What I find interesting is often you can buy from show breeder for less money than you can from these internet sites offering "toy" yorkies at $3,000 a pup. I honestly do not know how so many people get taken because they are so desperate for a micro mini sized dog. I guess it's true there is a fool born every day

I'm really glad you came here to YT to get some feedback. You made a really wise choice by waiting, sometimes it can be so hard to be patient. Much of the advice you will get here on YT is really good. People here really KNOW yorkies and are happy to give you sound solid advice.

Personally, I would start at the YTCA website and start from there.

I have a boy and a girl, and the best way I can describe the difference is my girl loves me and my boy is in love with me. My boy can't get enough attention he will be on my lap before I finish calling his name. My girl is more independent and much more bossy. If she is hungry, I stop everything and get the food ready because she will pester me until I feed her. They are both great you can't go wrong, and every dog has their own personality. Just my experience, good luck to you friend.

I usually see pet prices between $1200-$2000 here in Texas from reputable breeders. I would say $1200 is usually the lowest I see most of the time unless a breeder is placing an adult or a retiree, although there are exceptions at times. You can find puppies for $300-$400 at flea markets and out of the classifieds but they aren't what I would recommend buying...

Wonderful concept..............I think Cadillac Escalades should not be more than $40,000.00.........again, MY opinion, not reality! It is MY experience there is a whole lot more to producing a wonderful pup than just what it looks like! How do you suggest a breeder meet expenses of their breeding program, if not by sell of puppies? This is a concept that perpetuates the idea that ONLY show people should be breeding. Just curious......as a breeder/shower, where does your income to cover your breeding program, originate from? Do you collect the thousands of dollars needed annually to support a breeding program, from winning shows? It was my experience in showing Arabian horses there was no cash awards, just ribbons and trophies, which do NOT pay expenses directly.....it did boost the price we could charge for stud services to our stallions, as well as leasing fees for our mares. So, if we were NOT into showing, we wouldnt have had that source for generating revenue....which feeds into the addage that only people that show should be breeding. Do show winners now collect a cash monetary reward for winning shows, which can fund your breeding program or is your breeding program funded by winning trophies and ribbons? Do you sell puppies? It has been MY experience, that what one breeder considers a "pet", another breeder believes it is a show stopping winner! I just wonder how a breeding program is supposed to exist if puppies are not sold to cover expenses. When puppies are dumped at 5-8 weeks, before expenses actually occur, for $800.00-$1000.00, it seems a little ludicrious to expect a responsible breeder that keeps puppies for twice as long, does all the vaccinations, microchipping, etc to essentially "take a loss" on ANY healthy, well adjusted, "turn key" baby that leaves the new owner with nothing to do but spay/neuter and a rabies shot.

My "pet" puppies receive the same exact care, the same nutrition, the same vet care, the same vaccinations, microchipping, health records, etc that ANY of my puppies receive. I do not look at my babies and segregate the "pets" into one pile, where I am only going to do what is necessary to keep them alive and looking decent enough to sell, and the possible show prospects into another pile, to receive preferential treatment. My "pets" do go for less, but I do attempt to cover the expenses I have running the breeding program at the level I run it, with the sell of my babies......NOT making a killing "price gouging" unsuspecting owners. Puppy sales are indeed only one part of what is needed to run a successful breeding program, but it does count!

I choose NOT to get involved with showing dogs....been there, done that with horses, and it is all the same political games.....not something I am interested in doing....cant really afford the HUGE expenses....knowing what judges like who or what specifics they look for in the dog, not showing where you know the judge does not like what you may have, etc.....

Fortunately, no one has managed to put "caps" on what people can charge for anything they sell, for any reason. Anyone should be able to pay whatever they want, whatever something is worth to THEM. I have never been real big on trying to tell people what THEIR product is worth.....because I really do not know the time or investment they have in their product. I usually just say, "I personally will not pay that much for that product", and I just leave it for someone that will see the value in that product.

There are healthy, well adjusted, gorgeous pups out there, with SUPER pedigrees, super personalities, templates of the breed standard, that perhaps may not be show winning dogs, but are a great addition to a family. I don't like the idea of degredating such a pup to the realm of "just a pet" and only worth a nominal amount. Almost an insult to the responsible, ethical breeder, the new owner, AND the exceptional pup that falls short in the eyes of some, as a show dog.

Oh my gosh. What exactly do you think is going to *pay* for a proper breeding program? Dedicated and passionate hobby breeders continue to put many dollars into their passion, is it so very wrong to sell their pups at a price that reflects their quality of dogs, the quality of their breeding program, the quality of the care and rearing of a well rounded litter? Do you actually think I expect to spend over $10,000 buying rearing training health testing, and breeding a female, and give those puppies away for free?

There quite frankly is nothing else that will pay for a breeding program. We may win in the show rings - THERE ARE very FEW cash prizes for this. In fact I only know of 3 large shows that have Cash prizes for winning and that is for BIS. My puppy gal in the Sweepstakes at the USA Nationals won her class - whoopee - you know what money she won? $1.24 yup that is right a dollar and twenty five cents.




Actually paying for a breeding program I laugh at that. Even with the sale of puppies most of us small breeders barely break even. And we never ever price out the countless thousands of hours we invest in this hobby of ours. You have a dedicated responsible breeder of 10 years in the breed, then let us give a comparison is at least a Masters from a reputable Ivy League University....So as a Master what is my time worth in the breeding of puppies and the rearing of show dogs and breeding dogs?


But this concept that breeders should not earn money from the sale of dogs... can't endorse it. And btw no Registry, and No Breed Club, regulates against selling dogs for profit.


We are not high volumne commercial breeders pumpin out puppies, with no health testing or genetic testing on the very many breeds of dogs that go through that facility - and they sell them for $2-$400 dollars.

There is no such *thing* as *just a pet* - at least from this show breeder. NO JUST A PET. They are loving companions to your life and your home . I have said many times on this forum, if you are paying for a quality breeding program, you deserve a high quality Yorkie. Yeah maybe some faults that keep them out of the show ring.... But they should be healthy in the moment and more long term as well. Just a pet is no excuse for a breeding program.. IE like many who say Oh I am only breeding JUST PETS!! That is no excuse for breeding un-healthy and poor representatives of the breed.


I have a visceral problem with breeding JUST PETS because we all blinky well know that is a great excuse to breed anything that might look like a Yorkie.

So glad to hear people finally stating on Yorkie Talk that breeders should make a profit.

I would expect any pet I would buy to be healthy but let's face it after the health issue looks play a big part in which puppy someone might purchase. Even among show breeders the price will vary based on how a dog looks. I have seen dogs from winning breeders that have heads that never clear, ears that do not stand upright or are to large for their head, or like my Murphy was light almost platinum, those dogs would not do well in a show ring so breeders sell them for less. I know I would never pay the same for a purebred yorkie with floppy ears and a dark face as I would for upright ears and a golden blond face and head.
