Thanks for posting that Taylor. I only used a deer antler once - then it was history. A pointed end a slippery body, said noway for me. All chew toys should be supervised - imo. And examined for congruity, integrity after each chew session. My motto is *when in doubt ditch it*. |

That pointed end was cause of concern for me also. I never bought any.....I remember thinking at the time MOOSE horns would be a lot better! I give mine the large rawhide bone looking things with the "knots" at both end, as well as CET Chews, which are all flat. I always give them the extra large chew things, so they cant get them in their mouths, no one get ANYTHING to chew/knaw on unless I am there watching them continously, and I always have my scissors ready to cut off those chewed slimy parts, if they can ever get them knawed on that much. Those extra large rawhide bones are too large for them to get a whole part in their mouth at one time, so they can only chew on it from the outside of their mouth....I like bully sticks too but the last bunch I got were softer than the first bunch I got....that first bunch lasted them a very long time many, many chewing hours with very little eaten....this last batch, they seemed to be eating.....so I took them all away and threw them away....didnt feel safe with them. |
I never did understand the antler chews. I grew up in the country where deer antlers were in abundance here because there are lots of hunters and deer shed their antlers every year so we'd often find them. Our dogs never chewed on them. I even have a set in my house now sitting low on the floor and my girls never even sniff them. I'm sure if I cut them up and put them in their face they may learn to chew them, but they are not an item I have ever seen dogs take a natural interest in chewing on. |
