How long do they change color First of all, HAPPY HOLIDAYS YT friends! Second, quick question. When I got maggie she was all black and tan, no silver unless you looked REALLY HARD at the roots where the black and tan meets (neck, hinds, sides). The vet guessed she was 4yrs old. I have noticed in the past few weeks her black fur is turning more silver, especially on her sides. Do yorkies change color their whole lives, or is she possible older/younger than we thought? |
As I understand it, it could take about three years for their coat to mature. I think I read about that either on the YTCA website, or maybe the AKC website regarding penalties/requirements for showing Yorkies and colors detectable/intermingled in their hair. If she is younger, that could explain the blue starting at the roots. Time will answer the question...eventually...LOL Congratulations, and happy holidays to you, too! |
My Jewels changed colors at 4 yrs old. I think they can keep changing through their lives |
Thanks for the feedback! I would love it if she is younger than we thought, simply because theoretically we will have her longer. But I also think its cool that they can possibly change colors all their life! She was a mill breeding dog so it would surprise me if she was much younger, but who knows! I love her like crazy no matter what color :) |
She will always be a baby to me! |

My last yorkie was more of a steel blue color for most of her life, but as she got older 7-11 she turned a lot lighter |
