someone please help me imworried about my yorkie My Yorkers name is lucy she is 7 years old she is pregnant I'm not sure how far along she is, but she is big she does have milk, my concern is I cannot feel the babies only a growl is all from her belly, I'm worried cause she is 7 if she will die giving birth? The other breed is a Scottish terror and corgi he is just a tad bit bigger than she is, as far as right now she does not seem to set off any signs at all that she's is in pain or anything, but she's not in labor yet, only thing she's ben doing is wabbleing as she walks at a slow pace and sitting on her butt scooting in same place in circles, I'm just so worried, |
Have a vet seen her yet? I don't know anything about breeding but I am sure there will be some on here that will give you advice on what to do. |

i would definitely take her to your vet and have them do an ultrasound to see if A) they can determine how far along she is and B) how many pups she is carrying. Have you read up on whelping?? Maybe find someone who has experience with small breeds?? She sounds like she is getting very close to delivering. Take her temp...it will drop when she is getting close to delivery. If she has milk coming down, you need to have her xrayed so you can MEASURE head to pelvic ring ratio....that will tell you if she can even pass these big pups. Corgis are large boned, broad shoulders...please have your momma xrayed BEFORE she gets into labor in the middle of the night and you end up spending $2000.00+ at an emergency clinic, and may loose your momma anyway. |

I am not a breeder, but I have read that if they are bred for the first time and they are over 5 years old, their pelvis will not have the necessary flexibility for delivery. You really need to be ready for a c-section. |
An x-ray is the best way to figure out how far along she is and if there could possibly be complications due to size of the pups. Please do not wait until it is too late, there are so many things that could go wrong. I would also suggest that you get on line and do research on what to expect during a whelp and afterwards for both mother and pups. You need to prepare yourself for this upcoming litter and on how to give momma the proper pre-whelp care and aftercare. Deb Jenkins has a website that should be very helpful. |
