Rewarding with frozen cut green beans Ok so here’s my issue with frozen cut green beans. I got jealous watching Misa Minnie lol doing all her little tricks. Cody is a very smart 3 y/o boy so I started teaching him to roll over using frozen cut green beans as a reward. (don’t want to add weight while training) when he poops I find a few beans in the cut green beans in his poop. I bought Bird’s Eye frozen cut green beans. Seems he is not digesting the beans in the cut bean, is this normal? Well I just changed to rewarding with bits of fresh raw carrots, seeing a whole undigested bean scared me so I came to my YT family who advises giving frozen cut green beans as a filler, treat and / or reward. BTW he learned the roll over in one day with several 5 to 7 minutes training sessions during the course of one day, he is also very, very food motivated, will do most anything if food is offered as a reward lol…. So is a whole undigested bean from frozen cut green beans showing up in his poop normal? |
I can't answer your question directly, but just wanted to say I had concerns myself about a cut (thawed)green bean's digestibility. So instead I bought French cut green beans. They are sliced smaller and of course diagonally so I think they would go down better. |
I buy cans of tiny whole carrots at Kroger's and that is what Amy gets as a special treat. Take two out of the can (which I have poured into a plastic container with the water drained off) and my husband cuts them into 4 pieces and she gets two from each of us. They leave nothing in her stool cause they are so soft. |
Lola doesn't have that problem and my mom gives her like 6 frozen green beans every night. Btw you shouldn't watch Misa, Cess gets payed for the views. |
If he swallows them whole, I am not surprised a large piece came out. When training, my boys tend to swallow the reward whole, never chewing anything. Knowing this, I keep rewards really small. Plus, you don't want to give too many green beans or carrots and risk overdoing the fiber in his diet, causing gastro issues. My boys do not digest carrots well at all, so I don't use them. We have had a couple of scary incidents with gas, so I am careful with veggies in general. Every dog is different though. |
I've gone the frozen green bean route, found undigested beans in the poop too. Now I make my own dried turkey hearts. Buy them at the meat packing house, grade A human, slice them very thin and dry them. I doubt they have any calories and my two will do anything for one. I break them in tiny pieces too, yummy. |

2 days ago it was splattered all over. Every picture I went to view of someones pup there was Misa, but now that I know she gets paid, not gonna watch anymore videos. Thanks for that heads up........I only give cody 4 or 5 cut beans a day for training and the seeds show up:confused: |
I have read that dogs can't really digest whole vegetables. I don't know what study they got that from but obviously your dog is having issues so I guess it is best to try something else. Gracie gets freeze dried 100% meat treats. She will do about anything for them. The ones we get are quite small so a couple a day is not going to ruin her diet. She always gets them when I finish grooming her and putting her topknot in. |
