Newbie to Yorkie Talk and Newbie Yorkie mum Hi my name is Chris and I just got my first Yorkie a few weeks ago. Jellybean is 13 weeks old today. I am head-over-heals in love with my lil fella! I hope to bring in another fur sibling for him when he is done with his immunizations. I am learning a lot about his small breed. Completely different than all the other larger breeds and I have had or fostered throughout my life. I think the first week I was extremely grateful that my vet was on speed dial. lol We just had a scare while I was typing this. He seemed to choke on his food. He still isn't quite right yet. I took his food away and after a couple minutes gave him a drink. Now he is resting next to me. Goodness, I almost broke my computer running over to him by tripping on the cord. Whew. Anyway, he is growing so fast and is just adorable. I think from now on I will refer to the era's in my life as Pre-Yorkie and Post-Yorkie. I look forward to learning and sharing on this forum. Blessings to my fellow Yorkie lovers. :animal-pa Chris :animal-pa |
Welcome, Chris. Their little throats are so small. i had a couple of scares with my little one, too. My vet sternly warned me to keep all sticks, leaves, etc out of her mouth. She would chew on anything if allowed. |
welcome to YT!! Im so glad you rescued your baby from that monster food! lol!! They are such a fun breed and you are going to have so many years of happiness with your baby!! Post pics soon!!! |
I'm glad you were there to help Jellybean. You have to watch these little ones every second. These little pups are just like having a toddler around. Calleigh was into everything for a very long time. I was home most of the time so I didn't crate her. She used to wear me out! I would love it when she napped. :) Best of luck to you and your baby. |
Welcome to YT :)!!! Lol on "pre yorkie and post yorkie" -- I so get it :p! |
I agree with cslat1, they must be watched like a hawk, everything goes in their mouths, just like a 2 y/o old. Home has to be baby proof, slippers kept behind closed doors, purses kept out of their reach, socks LOCKED away, tissues, paper napkins / towels kept under lock and key, have any chap sticks? there is something magnetic in chap sticks, it just seems to draw puppie to them, man, I could go on and on lol, but I am sure you know all the lil favorites lol. If you cannot see them, they are getting into mischief lol, my last girl was like this up to 12 y/o, she slowed down around 14 y/o due to started to loose her sight. Enjoy these naughty days, just be very careful and watchful. |
Thanks fellow YT lovers! I love all the advice I am getting. It is greatly appreciated. Some I have discovered through error mostly! :-) It is an ongoing process. Just when I think the place is puppy proofed, I find out differently. Don't turn my back for 2 seconds is my motto now a days. The training is so intense. Mine not Jellybean's. bahaha Life is good here at our house. Thanks again all. |
