What type of treats do you train your dogs with My dogs love snackers from beniful but they are to big for training. My doxie loved puperonies but not my papilon. I want something both boo and princess can use. Im just nervous about just picking something off the shelf. With all the poison stuff that was killing dogs. Plus so many things yorkys seem to not be able to have. So what do your pets like. At least if i have a list of safe ones you all use. I can feel safe to try them on my babies. I have been doing some tricks. So far boo sits , walks, waits a little. Princess knows how to sit, lay down, bark quiet( least for treats) hoping to use it for her insane barking. Lol boo looks at me like HUH. Yorkies are really smart. Papilons are suppose to be in top ten smart dogs. I think how they use it is to be stuborn. Thanks |
As you know, I'm in the UK but I tend to buy "organic low fat/low calorie" soft treats for training. If they are too big, I break them in as many pieces as I can because Teddy got full from having treats stuffed in his face and started to spit them out..lol It's interesting re: your Papillion! Take a pic for me!!! That is the breed I was considering before getting Teddy! (I'm glad I got Teddy - just for the record). . . but I so admire Papillions and you never know when I might consider a 2nd addition!! |

I use at least 2 different treats at a time in obediance training- a low value treat for commands they know and high value treats when teaching them something new or when the commands are more demanding. Right now I'm using Charlee Bears for low value treats... a little messy when I break them apart but not a problem for us because we train outdoors. They're like little oyster crackers you put in your soup and about 3 calories each. For high value treats I've been using Orijen freeze dry treats. They are a little pricey but one goes a long way because they're semi soft and easy to break/pinch apart. We have tried the duck, bison and tundra- elk, trout and quail. |
I wouldn't touch any treats by Purina they are the makers of the chicken jerky that was made in China and was linked to hundreds of dogs deaths and hundreds of sick dogs so I don't trust them. Mine likes the chewy buddy biscuits by cloud star I break of little pieces like an arm then a leg and so on. Cloud star also has treats called tricky trainers in liver and those will get Callie to do ANYTHING. |
For training. HOT DOGS. Not the most healthy but they work great. I've also used Zukes minis. |
