Hide & Seek Every morning before I go to work I take my 2 yorkies for their walk. The trouble is my 19 month always runs and hides. He evades every attempt I make to catch him. Finally my husband will have to assist me creating a trap so that he can't get past us. My 8 month old seems to be following in his footsteps, but he's easier to catch. Once their caught they both seem to enjoy being outside for their morning walk. Is this another Yorkie thing? Please advise |
Hi and welcome to YT :)! Hmmmmm...tough to say what's going on here. Some dogs don't like the feel of getting their harness put on them, but then once they're ready to go, they're fine. Could that be his deal? It's so hard to say....this breed can be very quirky as you seem to already know :p! |
I have an 8 month old yorky and 3 year old pap. My yorky boo wakes me up to go outside by walking up my hip and licking and licking me till i move. So i get up and try getting the dogs up on the bed to put their collars on and what do they do play scratch eat food. Anything but come to me. Its a matter of training them better to come when called. Have you taken them some where like the vet that scared both or one of them? They may associate it with that. Try using treats to get them to come to you. Then tell them to sit. Give a treat. Then stay so you can catch them. Im finding im going to have to do one of my dogs at a time. Both in the room is to distracting. |
Mine does this. The best thing to do is to use treats to get them used to being near the harness, when your putting the harness on them and when your calling them with the harness. |
1 Attachment(s) When Piper scurries out of reach for whatever reason, I back off and 'get busy' with some contrived thing--Oh, what an interesting scrap of paper I found stuck to my slipper. What??!! She immediately becomes curious as to what took my attention (from her, really???) When she isn't the main event in the center ring, she tends to come my way--I think Piper feels that she can endure most anything as long as it's all about her--which, of course, it is!!! Such funny honies, they are! |
