Jealous Yorkies I have 2 yorkies, one 19 months and the other 8 months. They love rawhide chew sticks. I can give them 3 or 4 on the floor but they only want the one the other has. They will fight over the one the other has, also waiting for the one to drop it then stealing it. Whats going on? |
Welcome to my world!! It has got to be a Yorkie thing - although I have a Yorkie and a Biewer. My Biewer has a tiny mouth so he actually waits for my Yorkie to start chewing the stick - then he steals it in a flash. There can be 4 sticks and flip chips available, but they only what the other has. Then the Barkfest begins. Yep, I just explain it by saying "it's a Yorkie thing". No other explanation needed! |
Typical. You will have to correct them when they do this. You should look into "rawhide". Rawhides are really dangerous for our babies. The rawhide will break into pieces and will become a choking hazard. Another bad thing about them is they're not digestible, making the swallowed pieces harmful to the intestinal tract as they can get logged and cause blockages. If you want something for them to chew, I would pick Bully Sticks. They're all natural, digestible and do not come off in chunks. |
When you have 2 one will always want what the other has but it does get better in time and training them can help too |
It doesn't matter what it is. Even if I buy two of the EXACT same treat/toy, they always fight over the one the other has.... |
Same here guess its a yorky thing or dog thing |
Please don't give rawhide it is very dangerous and can cause blockages because it swells in the stomach, it is not digestible and is treated with toxic chemicals. |
Same here. I have two and they always have to fight over the same one toy, when they have a whole basket full of toys less than 5' away. It's like a sibling rivalry. If they are not truly fighting and just playing teasing, I would let them be. If something is truly SO high value that they are fighting/showing teeth/breaking skin, I would get rid of that item. I also agree with the others that say no to give raw hides. The reason is they can chew off big pieces and they are not digestable, so they can swell in the stomach or intestine and cause a blockage. That is likely to happen in small dogs. I use to give bully sticks but 99% of the brands I tried stink to high heaven, so I stopped giving them. Like they smell like a rotting corpse covered in poop, sprayed by a skunk and doused with a bad batch of menudo. (yes I have purchased from the "non odor" vendor) Then I gave "Wishbones" from Merrick (beef tendon, which bully sticks are tendon too, just from a different part of the bull) but they get eaten too fast and they are like $4 each. Too $$$ I give Himalayan chews BUT some dogs have chipped a tooth if they get overzealous, and some dogs don't even like it. Mine chew it when they are really bored. LOL But they don't smell. |
My boys like to chase each other for whatever the other one has. It's a game. :) |
