Help with my new Rescue? Okay so it is starting to seem that there isnt a whole lot of truth to what the woman I adopted him from told me. We got him Wednesday evening, we fed him what she has been feeding him "supposedly" he gobbled it up quickly so i assumed she told the truth. Well he has had very soft almost runny stool since then and hasnt eaten since Wednesday night, he had a very few bites yesterday morning but thats it. I am sure his tummy is messed up from eating a different food. My question is 1. What can i do not knowing what food he really was on to begin with. and 2. Is there anything in addition to the belly band that i can do for him "marking". Im hoping to not have to do the belly band forever. |
If he's refusing to eat, then you really do need to go to the vet asap. Dogs usually don't eat only when something is genuinely wrong. It sounds like he needs a fecal test anyway. For potty training, read the sticky threads about it in this section: General Training Questions - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community |
Refusing to eat is not good and he needs to go to the vet for that as well as a regular check up since you just got him. |
As far as food i use wellness core for puppies and it did not mess either oneof our dogs tummiesup. |
I'm going to have disagree with my fellow YTers here. A lot of my fosters have been picky about food. They can go for at least a day or so with not eating. Usually we give in before they are so hungry they will eat whatever. Now the soft poop does worry me, BUT that could just be from stress. Did you adopt this pup from a reputable rescue? Or just someone who call themselves a rescue? It happens more often than I'd like to think. As far as the belly band. Just take him outside often. Every hour or so, and lengthen the time you take him outside. My Toto was SO bad at marking when we first got him. He's now pretty good, but he doesn't tell me when he needs to go outside. Unless you put a "heavy flow" maxi pad in the belly band, it won't soak up enough if he pees inside. It's meant to only soak up a small mark. |
