new member Hello, my name is Jim. My wife and I got our first Yorkie in May and she is 9 months old, her name is Sophie and weighs less than 5 pounds. Seventeen years ago our poodle Misty passed after being a family member for over sixteen years. I still grieve and had a hard time getting another (hate to use the word dog) pet. Sophie has brought so much joy to my wife and me that I now see that it was years wasted. We are both now in our twilight years an there are no do overs, so I urge any one to not wait too long before getting another pet, it will never replace what you lost, but will bring a new light to your life, Jim. |
Welcome to YT. So glad you were able to bring little Sophie into your family after your loss. I know it sometimes feels like you are some how betraying a lost pet by getting another one but there is no limit on the amount of love we have. Loving little Sophie doesn't diminish the love you still have for Misty. Hope you have many healthy, happy years together. |
Welcome to YT, good advise given, thank you. You have chosen an awesome breed as I assume after 9 months you have found there is a bigggg difference between the two breeds lol. I use to have poodles, then got hooked on these little critters. |
I believe getting another "pet" honors those who have gone before...Sophie came along at exactly the time she was supposed to; thank you for sharing beautiful insight. "Dogs' lives are too short. Their only fault, really. " |

After My Chelsea died, I didn't want another dog. I was convinced I could never love another dog like I did her. I went three years without a dog. During that time, my daughter went away to college, and then my son. I was alone in my home. My kids decided i needed company and should get another dog...i wasn't sure. I took a few weeks to really think about it. I decided to give it a go, and ZoE came into my life :). I don't know what I was thinking waiting so long! I am so glad to have her in my life. Congratulations on welcoming Sophie into your lives. It sounds like she is very lucky to have found such a caring home. |
Three years ago i lost my doxie of 17 years. Before when i lost a baby at 12 and the other13 years i didnt want a babie right away. But when i lost sugar it ripped my heart out. I wanted a baby to cuddle with. I think i should have waited now. Cause all i did was cry. I would love on my new baby and think of sugar and bawl. But i love having my fur babies. |
What a sweet post!!!!!! Kisses to Misty (who shared my name - so was obviously intelligent and gorgeous) and your new baby, too :) |
