If you buy a yorkie from an out of state breeder
 
Since it seems like I might be looking in other states, I see some of the recommended breeders here send them via plane - what is the coldest temp you would feel comfortable sending them ? Or in other words, safest parameters?

I would not buy from a breeder who shipped the puppy in cargo. That's my own personal bias. I would rather have someone fly the puppy via courier in the cabin. I've been stuck on enough delayed flights, repairs, delays on the tarmac, etc to not feel comfortable. But, if you are, then the Airlines themselves have temperature requirements for shipping animals. I would just fly to pick up the pup or use a courier.

Oh that's an idea. So you can keep puppy on your lap?

Not on your lap, but you can keep the puppy in a carrier under the seat in front of you. Airlines have requirements but the breeder who is used to shipping likely knows this angle too.

I see you're on LI.... there are a couple of good yorkie breeders in New England so maybe a day trip to CT or NH would be easier for you and you could see your puppy and meet your breeder etc.

Be careful who you buy from.

Never ship a puppy or adult Yorkie cargo. If you contact a breeder that suggests that then run away.

I hope you have been able to find some reputable breeders to get advise from.

Thanks yes, I guess I'm still learning here and when the reputable breeders listed here - say transport avail, I misunderstood :-) I got it now, thanks!

Personally, I would never fly a dog in cargo in the United States. No Stateside carrier has a strong enough history of successfully transporting animals...there have been way to many injuries and deaths IMO.

I would fly out to get my puppy and fly back with it, if I were buying out of State. If i absolutely could not fly myself, i would hire a courier to fly with my pup.

I drove three hours to get ZoE and another three to bring her home.
