Is there a way to make a dog bigger? I'm looking at getting a yorkie puppy and she is about 2-2.5 pounds at 32 weeks which according to the size guides means she might not even reach 3 pounds when full grown. Is there a way to make her bigger by feeding her a more protein rich diet? 3 pounds is just so small and I fear she may be vulnerable later in life at such a small size. |
It would probably be best to search for a puppy that is a little bigger than to try to "make" one bigger....which I don't even know if that's possible....if it is I know someone will be along to share how it's done!! But if you get a pup that's small stature and over feed it you may just wind up with a fat yorkie....which is no good. |
Yeah I don't want a fat yorkie, and I'm really sold on her specifically, I'm just curious if that is an option. It wouldn't be horrible if she was tiny, just wish she could be at least 4 pounds. |
Her size is determined by her genes, and at this point, 8 months, it is pretty much established that she will be smaller than standard. She will continue to grow a little but not much. |

Yep...her ultimate size is pre-determined. I will tell you though, my 2 younger ones were charting to only be around 3 pounds too...they are indeed small, however, they "filled-in" later making them more like 4 pounds. So they look like 3-pounders, but they are nice and sturdy. So, the puppy you're looking at may get to be 4 pounds once it fills in. |
