Yorkies on the bed
 

Do you let your yorkie on your bed? I have a 10 week old puppy that I have on the bed with me all the time. I keep her very clean but I don't let her sleep all night for fear of her having a accident. Sometimes I just lay and hold her while Im reading a book or doing homework. My boyfriend (not live in) is very annoyed by this but I don't see any problem with it. Just curious what other people think.

My pups are always in bed with me. Geno was in bed with me after the third night but it was hard to potty train him since he wasn't crate trained. Mia stayed in the crate at night on the night stand so she could see me at night. I crate trained her for about 1-2 months before I let her sleep with me. She is 2 now and does well with her potty pads. I highly recommend crate training but I don't see anything wrong with letting her sleep in bed with you once they are potty trained. I also have doggy stairs by my bed so Mia can get down to go on her pad at night.

For fear of mine falling off of me squashing her because she likes to lay up against me. We do better with our own areas. I keep my room pretty cold so she has a soft sided crate with a thick blanket over the top and fleece blanket over her dog bed that's in there. We both sleep better this way.

Amy started sleeping with us in bed when she was about 1 1/2 years old. She is trained to go outside to do her business and will wake my husband up to take her but that isn't till around 7 in the morning. She sleeps right by me with her head on my pillow and curled in my arm. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Jackson has been since pretty early on. My moms new pup is now 12 weeks old and pretty small and she's been sleeping in their bed since night one perfectly fine.

That's so sweet, I hope to be that way with my Paris.

Blazer was never allowed on our bed until about a month ago when we were living in a camper and it was REALLY cold in his crate at night. DH took pity on him and started letting Blazer sleep with us. Well now that we're in a house again Blazer thinks that he can be on the bed but DH doesn't want him up there any more. Blazer doesn't complain about sleeping in his crate, he willingly goes in there at night, he just wants to be with us wherever we are sitting, especially if it's on the bed. It'll be interesting to see how this all ends up playing out.

You could always trade-in the boyfriend :D.

No seriously though, we do let all our kiddos (3 + a foster kiddo) on the bed all the time/anytime. We love it, it's so cuddly and sweet and we love sleeping with them.

I have 2 yorkies one is 3 years old my boy rocky and my new one sophie she is 8 months. I've had rocky since he was 8 weeks old and at first I didn't let him sleep in our bed cuz he was so little and I didn't want him to fall and for potty purposes but once he turned like 2 and was potty trained I let him sleep in my bed. He jumps down when he wants to so sometimes I wake up wit him and other times I find him in his own bed. My new yorkie sophie will never be able to sleep in my bed because her bones are to fragile and she already broke and lost a leg just falling from my sofa. my bed is higher so that's a big no no. So it depends on the situation and how fragile your yorkie is. As long as they are clean I don't mind sleeping wit my dogs. My BF doesn't mind either.

Uni is my first dog and she slept in our bed since the first night. I kept a bell on her collar, and still do. While potty training, during the night if I heard the bell (meaning she was moving around) I would get up and take her to try and pee. This worked well for us.

Toto is my rescue boy and I got him when he was 8 yrs. He was already crate trained, so I didn't want to mess that up. He would sleep in the crate at night downstairs by himself, but as soon as the sun started coming up he would start to bark. Once it started getting cold, I took him upstairs to our room. I think he is used to the crate enough that when we go out, he is still fine in the crate, but of course prefers to sleep in bed with us.

Each dog is different. You just have to train a certain way that works for you and stick with it. I love that the dogs sleep in bed with us. Although, I don't love it when I wake up with a crooked neck or pinched nerve bc two little 5 pound dogs took over the Cal King bed and I was too "nice" to move them. :rolleyes:

All my babies have slept in bed with me, my first 2 I put in my bed when they were able to jump on and of bed, which was about 2 months old. My 3rd baby never moved when she slept, she was 8 weeks old (all my pups were 8 weeks old when I got them) at 8 weeks old she was in my bed, only because she didn't move, slept all night. So then I had 3 babies sleeping with me. Now I have just my adopted boy, seems his prev. owner allowed him on the bed, but was not allowed to sleep near them. When I first got him (last Nov. 12th) he would sleep on the extra pillow, but not near me, I would take him off that pillow and put him near near, as soon as I let him go back to the pillow he went. This went on for months, I was very sad that he was trained ok to be on the bed, but don't come near me. Every night for months I went through the routine of taking him off that pillow and holding him next to me, and every night when I took my arms off him to see if he would stay he headed back to that pillow. Then one night in July he came to my pillow and laid at the top with his little paws touching my head, I can't tell you how over joyed I was, it was like he was testing me, to see if it was ok to be near me, this went on for 2 weeks. He would go on the bed, go on that pillow, I would take him off the pillow, hold him near me, he would leave and go to that pillow, as soon as I was settled for sleep, he would tip toe to the top of my pillow lol, 2 weeks of that then he started with accepting coming under the blankets, he would roll around under them, dig a nest thencome out from under the blankets and go to the top of my pillow, long story short lol, by the end of Aug. he was sleeping next to me and still does. I was always use to feeling my babies bodys next to me, it's hard for me to fall asleep not feeling them. It took me almost one year for him to build confidence that it was ok to sleep next to me, he spent 2 1/2 years with an owner that did not allow this. I knew in Aug. the first time he slept next to me, that now he has really accepted me as his new mamma. So to answer your question lol, yes, let the baby sleep with you,the boy friend is jealous and does not know the strong bond we have with these awesome lil yorkies. He'll get over it lol.

BTW, I love her name Paris, beautiful.

This is what happening to me right now. The same exact thing. And I am doing what you do. Every night I hold her next to me when I let her go, she goes straight to her pillow. I am hoping that if I continue to do this she will eventually snuggle with me. Keeping my fingers crossed. If it turns she just likes sleeping on her on pillow and wants her own space....so be it. She does allow me to cuddle her in the mornings before we get out of bed. It is becoming our thing.

My Teddy hates sleeping in the bed with me but he doesn't mind sleeping on a rug at the foot of the bed - it's so strange!
