Teddy hates his new collar and me 1 Attachment(s) My hubby was very sweet and bought a Thanksgiving themed collar for Teddy. This is no small accomplishment since we're in England and American Thanksgiving is not celebrated here en masse! The collar is adorable and is pictured below (his has a silver turkey charm instead of beads). HOWEVER, he is moping around, walking funny, limping, avoiding eye contact and all manner of other weird behaviors whilst he is wearing this collar. All of this behavior mysteriously disappears as soon as the collar is removed. So much for showing family his new collar at Thanksgiving whilst he's wearing it...no one wants to be around a mopey dog! Anyway, it's really cute and we got it from here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/DivaDogDesign?ref=si_shop I guess the only thing I can do is make him wear it for a few hours each day so he's used to wearing a collar? He's never worn one before so I'm assuming it's a phase which will pass...!!? |
:D Hee hee!!! Yes, it is just a matter of getting used to it - he'll learn! I think you'd like this website - Salt Dog Studios- Handmade, Dog Collars and Accessories - they have some lovely hand-made Christmas collars which I'm sure Teddy would adore - as does Harry....!!! ;) :D |
Lol...what a total MIVA (male diva)!!! Sooooo dramatic over this new tortuous collar. What a little character he is. I hope he gets used to it quick so he can show it off on the holiday... |
Slip it on and then do something he totally gets into--distraction can work miracles sometimes! "A well-trained dog will make no attempt to share your lunch. He will just make you feel so guilty that you cannot enjoy it." |
Bubba and Sissy are little turds when it comes to new collar etc. I usually put it on them and rub it on them for a few seconds, tell them they are pretty (handsome), take it right off. Then I let them smell it and say, "is this yours" and let them smell it. I do that a couple of times and finally they are ok with it. Be careful with these beads. I'm afraid mine would eat them  |
Try giving him a treat every time you put it on him. Take it on and off two or three times a day. When he starts to associate that collar with a treat that he loves he will find it much more acceptable!:) |
It's funny how dogs react differently to collars and to wearing clothing. My Karlee also gets mopey when I put her collar on or a dress. She mopes around like a beaten dog and hides. All of my other pups don't mind wearing things. However I find that Karlee does get used to it and will act normal after a while, so when it is necessary I put it on then give her treats and try to play and distract her, then I ignore her. She gets over it ok. |
:) Also, just wondering about the charm - does it make a clinky sound at all? I know when I first put Harry's tag on his collar, he HATED it...and I realised he was trying to see/get to/bite this clinky new addition :D But, again, he did eventually get used to it (I think he thought he had tinnitus  :D) |
That's a super cute collar! I may have to order a Christmas one from them. Jackson loves putting on new collars and things, LOL, well I guess maybe he is just used to since I'm a freak who buys him 3984773672 new collars. |
Hey, everyone! Teddy seems to have forgiven me? He is no longer moping and he's becoming more and more his feisty, annoying little self. I enjoyed the peace whilst it lasted...ha. I thought I was moody..I got nuthin' on this little dog! |
