Spayed/Neutered Did you pup stay at the vet over night when she/he had surgery to get spayed/neutered? I dropped Lady off this morning and they called to say she's doing great and still scheduled for pick up tomorrow. It's just so strange to not have her here tonight! We all miss her! |
If there is no one there over night is really not a good idea for her to stay over night. |

Years back when I had 2 of my babies spayed they stayed over night. It is better that they stay and be monitored . I would insist they stay, but that's me, I'm a worrywart. Give her extra hugs and kisses tomorrow when you pick her up to make up for the lost ones she didn't get tonight. |
I am glad she is staying because I would rather her be monitored and looked after but just miss her lol! |
oh I know about the missing part, quiet house lol, My Cody was hospitalized several times this past Spring, for 4 to 7 days, talk about missing lol, even tho I went to visit everyday leaving the vet without him was torture, so, as demanding as he may get, I remind myself of those times he wasn't home. Tomorrow will come fast, you'll see. |
My dog Pearl stayed, but she had an emergency spay and was very ill (pyometra), which is a uterine infection because I didn't get her spayed young enough. It's actually quite common, but I was young and stupid and didn't know. In general, I feel more comfortable with my dogs being monitored a night or two after any major surgery. Hang in there, I know it's scary. |
You have to always make sure to ask if there is over night staff because at most there is not and they will leave the animals for several hours alone. Generally though unless it's a special case or there were complications it's not necessary for them to be kept over night for a regular spay and they are normally happier and comfortable at home. Mine had to stay over night twice each for a knee surgery and I refused to come home without her until I just couldn't keep my eyes open. Both times they called me to pick her up earlier then normal because she would not drink, eat or go potty for them. They got concerned. |
I have always picked my pets up in the early evening after they get spayed or neutered. I wouldn't allow them to spend the night unless they were being monitored and they actually needed it. |
I picked Emma up the same day but we didn't go to a our regular vet. Our regular vet does over night for animals she spays but we went to the spay/neuter clinic which was much cheaper and I was able to donate a little because I had some extra. And then my insurance covered the full cost were I would have had some out of pocket with my regular vet. Not sure if there is any added value. But as others have mentioned, its important to ask if there will be someone there overnight. If not does it truly make sense to keep the pet at the vet. |
