2nd Puppy Hey! So we have our lovely little 6 month old female, Lexi, and we just picked up a 9 week male puppy yesterday. They've been playing with each other basically any moment they get - I think trying to establish dominance. It's weird because it seems the older is almost obsessive about the younger and even when their seperated she won't relax. At first I was thinking they should eventually just work it out and then be able to bond normally with the humans of the house, but I've spent the last hour on Google scaring myself. We've owned Lexi for 4 months and I'm worried to lose the bond I have with her :( |
Awww...try not worry about your bond with your Lexi - it's still there...it may just take a back seat for a bit as she goes thru the process of getting use to the new guy. Plus, she is barely out of puppyhood herself, so she probably still has all that vim and vinegar in her :p. |
Lexi just just a lil baby, now all excited because she has a play mate, you'll never loose your bond with her or the new puppy. They depend on you for everything, there will always be that bond. They just entertain each other. At one time I had 3 babies, all 3 years apart, I never lost my bond with any of them. What did you name little boy. |
Congratulations on your 2nd. I love having multiples, and each time a new one was added they were the main focus of attention for a while. But they remained very bonded to me, and became competitive for my attention. Your 2 are so young, it will be so fun to watch them grow up together. |
Oh good. I'm really glad you guys think it'll be good. My fear was that they wouldn't like each other, didn't consider they would be obsessed with each other hahaha. His name is Milo. He's a cutey :P but he's so wildly different from Lexi. It'll be really interesting watching him grow a personality. He's kind of a scaredy cat and Lexi is really outgoing. |
My two puppies play every chance they get also. But If I start playing with one, the other butts in as if to say that's my mom.. And that reassures my bond with them. |
Oh, I just love the name Milo. If I ever had a boy that would be among my top choices for a name. You are in for a lot of fun with 2. Hope you'll post photos :D |
Milo is a cute name, Lexi seems soooo happy to have a lil buddy, when the novelty of a new bro wears off her attention will turn back to you. My best puppy years were when I would add a new baby to my pack, there was no TV for me. Playing puppies was more entertaining then anything on TV. Be happy Lexi accepted a new baby and is eager to romp and play. Please keep us up dated on Milo's progress with his new sister and new family. |

On that note, those with multiples, how long is reasonable for them to establish dominance?? Sometimes their play is quite rough, Lexi tries to drag Milo around by the scruff >.> meanwhile Milo's been doing the humping thing haha... Also when is it good to intervene? At this point as long as Lexi isn't too rough I've been just letting them figure themselves out |
I wouldn't let Lexi get to rough with the baby, keep in mind Milo is just 9 weeks old, Lexi is more then twice his age and stronger. Be careful she doesn't hurt him if she is dragging him and he is fighting her off as I am sure he is. Letting them figure out who the dominant one will be, should not be. That's when you step in. You are always the pack leader, give them time out until they calm down, and just have fun with them. I can just see those two playing lol. |
Precisely haha... I kind of think she's just a smigit too young to completely understand she has 6 pounds on him and needs to be gentle haha. I've been trying to let them play after Lexi has gotten some energy out. Any tricks to encourage gentle play? |
I had my pap before boo hes a yorky and they have their time but come to love on me and play. I like having two . When i have to go somewhere they entertain each other. Actually thats probably the good thing boo learned is to be quiet when we leave. They both love it when i play with them. You wont loose your closeness. In fact you will have to watch showing favoritisum. When i play with either one. I will catch to other watching close so i play with the other. Even swich up turns who i start to play with. |
