Puppies fighting 1 Attachment(s) We have two female yorkie mix littermates, Tulip, and Tink. They are a year old and weigh about 2 and 2 and 1/2 pounds. The smaller girl has been aggressively attacking her sister. It's odd because they sleep together and mostly get along fine. When I take them out of thier cages, or outside or put them on the bed little Tulip ferociously attacks Tinky. She bites and bullies her all over the place. I tried to break it up last night and got bit on the finger! I don't know how to stop this behavior. Tulip is my pretty little puppy and she is smaller than my wife's baby Tinky. My wife is not happy when my puppy attacks hers. They could get hurt. Any advice about how to deter this behavior would be appreciated. |

I see this more commonly in litter mates especially two of the same sex. One way to deter it is that if you know what sets it off don't do it that way. Deal with one first in whatever it is you are doing either putting it out or on the bed whichever. Try starting with the one that gets beaten up. Then once the excitement is over, get the other one, pick up the first one and let that one get the excitement over then let them be together. You may have to do it in the reverse order, see which works best. |
Darling babies! Hard to believe such cuties can make such trouble. :) Lorraine has lots of experience, and I second her expert advice. I have brothers from different litters. Occasionally their wrestling gets out of hand. I raise my voice and bellow "nooo!" to make them stop and pay attention to me. This way I don't have to physically intervene and potentially get hurt. Sometimes I add clapping my hands or stomping on the floor. Obedience and trick training helps. Any activity that fosters togetherness and constructive activity helps. When I have to break up the wrestling, I immediately make them perform a few tricks together like sit, down, shake hands. Usually it is boredom and pent up energy that leads to the naughty moments. Sometimes there is a little jealousy over attention. As Lorraine wrote, try to pinpoint what sets off the attacks. |

I have a papilon who is 3 years old had her since a puppy. The we go boo a yorky hes 6 months old. He will bully princess. She has always slept with me in the bend of my legs. If boo gets up on my bed first and i call princess to get up. If hes asleep he wakes up leans over the edge and dares her to get up. They have fought. I put both of them down. Then i get princess up. We are on twin beds till we get our king from storage in colo. So they both have realized they can also sleep with daddy. Sounds like your puppy is keeping you for himself. I would put him down when she does this. Then hold the other puppy. Maybe momma can take him while you hold mommas baby. Mine now if one is laying with me the other goes to daddys bed. We will see what happens when we go to our king bed lol |
